Justme
Hi guys I have a Tohatsu M 40 A model outboard motor which I have rebuilt and am very pleased with. I do notice that it originaly had a thermostat installed and at the moment without the thermostat the water tempature is 70F degrees on my temp guage. I also notice that it seems a bit heavy on juce. I am wondering whether it is running a bit cold. Any ideas or a reference point to where the information can be gained. I am also looking for a manual. Thanks Ian Edited January 6, 2011 by Fezza

BFB
Hi Justme, All motors should have thermostats fitted as without them they may not reach correct operating temperature. 70F is way to cold for a motor to operate efficiently. Normal opeating temperature should be around 70C which about 160F. This cold running will affect performance and fuel economy.
