Penguin
Hi raiders, We hit the bay today around 9am, caught our yakkas quicksmart, then off to the drums where we downrigged our yakkas on one rigger, and we put some squid I caught 2 days ago on the other rigger. We didnt have to wait long as both squid and yakkas were getting nailed repeatedly. Unfortunately all Kings we encountered were 59-64cm nothing legal but still fun to catch. A couple of times the yakkas got nailed right in front of me as I was about to connect the downrigger clip. It was awsome to see the kings jostle for position to see who gets to eat the yakka. We ended up only using one rigger, and then just slow trolling a yakka just below the surface as well. We knew that the kings were about to strike when the trolled yakka would leap out of the water a couple of times before getting smashed. We eventualy went over to the oil wharf in an effort to try and find some bigger Kings, but it was not to be, we anchored up and set our berley. We caught more rat Kings, we got them on pillies, peeled prawns, chicken breast and another one on a live yakka. A bream, a flatty, and 2 trevs were the only keepers we could manage. I even caught this beast on a live yakka, he gave us a merry run around as we upped anchor and gave chase in our boat 20mins later I find this on the end of my line. The pic doesnt realy show his real size as he was about 4ft across and very heavy, after a few pics we cut the line and let him swim away. We anchored up again and after a couple more rat kings we called it a day a went home. we estimated that we landed in the vicinity of 18-20 Kings today. Anybody know where the bigger models have gone? Heres a few pics from our day. Edited January 7, 2011 by penguin
