Mate, i don't know about which houseboats to get but May is a great time to fish for Barra! Even though the water is cooling, There are some beasts around. All you have to do is basically find structure like mangroves(which wont be hard), reefs or sunken timber and you will be on the fish. You can expect Barra, Salmon, Jacks, Trevally,Black Jewfish, Queenfish, Big Bream, Grunter and Golden snapper in the creeks and rivers and find Black Jewfish, Golden Snapper, Macks, Tuna and much more offshore!

Just bring some light 3-5kg rods for flicking the mangroves, Heavy duty rods for the jews and macks offshore, Some medium(4-8kg) rods for live baiting(which i think is best here) and maybe a fly rod for a challenge. Use a cast net to catch poddies around the beaches and sandbanks but you can always just catch fresh fish and use it.

Talking lures, bring Gold Bombers, Plastics, Halco rooster poppers for the gt's, halcos laser pros for trolling and a few Large Metals fr the Tuna and Mackerel!

Buy some packaged bait before leaving like prawns, pilchards, Mullet and use this to catch small fish. Put a large bait out at all times just incase (whole pilchard) You can get a cheap cast net for $50 and this will be a huge advantage as you will get up to 30 on a single cast if you get a good aim.

It may even be worth arriving a day early and going on a charter with a guide to check out a few fishy haunts and techniques!

Make sure your houseboat comes with a couple of runabouts as you will have a way better time and chance if this is the case!

PM with any questions!

Good luck
