Fishing sessions since January

I haven’t been on the forum for a while but I've still been fishing when I can get out.

During my holidays I did a few long trips in the yak launching from Cooks river and pedalling out to Molineux point in search of some kings. I worked all of the buoys along the way with poppers and plastics but I only managed small fish.

I did find a few better kings around Molineux but they busted me off on the buoys.

I even had a small shark hit a surface popper.

I hit Towra point in the yak in search of some blue swimmers and to do some lure fishing.

In the few trips I did I managed to get some crabs each trip.

There were also some nice trevally taking soft plastics

Woolooware bay fished really well this summer with some nice bream, whiting and flathead.

The Flathead fishing was really good with nearly all of the fish over the legal size and quite a few fish between 50-60cm especially behind the moored boats near the mouth and along the eastern drop-off. The Berkley fat dog deep produced the most flatties.

I managed a nice 86cm fish near the mouth of Woolooware on a Tilsan bass lure.

She swam away after a quick photo.

The whiting fishing with surface lures was quite good, especially near the mouth of the bay.

The Bream in the racks were very aggressive this year. Being so aggressive they were quite hard to hook as they would hit the surface lures really hard sometimes sending the lure flying through the air. The flats at the back of the bay didn’t fish as well as previous years.

The action seemed to be located in the racks and near the mouth of the bay.

Here is a video of some of the fish caught at Woolooware Bay.

Dad and I did a couple of trolling trips offshore on the boat but we seemed to miss the marlin and wahoo action earlier in the year.

Dad did manage to get a nice dollie on one trip.

I was able to get out once off Wollongong harbour in the yak.

While trolling south from the harbour the Halco laser pro screamed off and I wasn’t sure what I had hooked. After working it to the surface I was surprised to see that a hammerhead shark had taken my lure. I ended up cutting it off as I didn’t want to bring it into the yak.

After catching two red rock cods in front of the harbour I managed to hook a pan sized snapper on a plastic near the bommie just north of the harbour.

Mako,

Was wondering where you'd disappeared to! Woollooware still producing the goods for you I see. Great flatties there and some pretty big trevally too! Still, nothing beats those crabs... Great helmet cam footage too!

Mako, you rock!.

Love the GoPro HD helmet cam, have also thought of getting one myself!.

Excellent field report, hope other Raiders follow suit and submit reports like this, cause these kind of reports are pure joy to read.

Would love to get into Yaks, but have too many other addictions at the moment and I'd have a hard time convincing the boss that (we) need one.

keep it up!.

Matt

If you ever keen for a yak, give me a buzz and I will join you with

Thanks Mike.

We'll definitely have to organise a yak trip and chase some estuary species.

Thanks Matt.

The GoPro camera is great.

It's really easy to use and the videos turn out quite good for such a small camera.
