Cold night on the Hawkesbury - What a Hairtail !

I'm new to Fishraider and really enjoy reading some of the posts. I've now read a few reports on Hairtail and thought it's about time I add my own. I've now had two goes at catching these (what I thought up to recently were mythical) beasts. Well the first time we caught 5 smallish ones but at least it was confirmation they existed. My second attempt in early July though, was one I'll remember for many years to come. Pulled up in a spot with my brother at 5:30pm and as I had prepared my lines the day before I was ready to drop my first line almost immediately. Set at a depth as I was happy with just off the bottom and washed my hands. Within 30 seconds the rod starts bouncing around madly. Pulled it up, my brother was waiting with the net, until he just throws it down on the boat floor, grabs the line and pulls in what turns out to be the biggest Hairtail I have seen. This one measured 159cm and was really thick and solid. Left at 10pm with a leaking boat and not a single other fish to add to the session, but gees, did that one Hairtail make my night !
