dhype Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 (edited) Hey raiders.. Just got back from a dream fishing trip at the north island NZ targeting kings on jigs and livies.. Booked 3 days but only fished two days due to bad weather... My mates tom, pete and untill recently fishraider stranger now friend Bert joined me for an amazing 5 day trip... Landed well over 100+ kings up to 31kg!!! Average fish were 10kg plus!!!! KINGS EVERYWHERE fly for our knife jigs and giant yakkas... some yakkas we used were size of the kings i catch in Botany bay! AMAZING trip with the best fishing, charter and mates you will find anywhere... does not get any better! No time for a full post now but i'll let the pictures speak for themselves! All fish released except a "small" 15kg one that feed us all for 4 days! Cheers for now Trung Edited November 24, 2011 by dhype
luvbigfish Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 the old arms would have been burning after that trip , how fat are they some real beast there great job! cheers paul
quintrex52 Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 (edited) Awesome kingies Trung.. I might have to book a NZ trip soon....I think the next time you fish for botany kings it wont live up to NZ standards, but only just lol...Good on ya. Shame about the weather though Edited November 24, 2011 by Dangler7
luderick -angler Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 Thats NZ for you fellas! Awesome work there boys bet it was worth it! Where were you based Bay of Islands? One thing about NZ is the variety in fish species is less but they damn well make up for it in size and numbers!
vo2c88 Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 Wow Great Job there guys. Would have been one hell of a fight. Out of curiousity would you please share the name of the charter you guys went on? Was thinking of planning a trip myself Cheers Vic
leatherjacket Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 Mate, Those hoods are soooo... big and fat it looks like some of them could eat you head first Trung. Better that you stay out of the water would be my advise... :074:

Cobba12 Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 First of all well done boys. Does anyone know of any good charter operators out of Auckland that can put me onto some good kings and or snapper? Got a wedding in late Jan and after this report I have to go fishing while im there now Cheers Cobba
tim85x Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 Nice fish!! I am heading to great barrier island in march just wondering what part of new zealand u where fishing?
fryboy Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 So cruel to make us look at that on this grey, boring sydney day! Awesome kings! Thanks for the report Fryboy
Mr Squidy Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 Damn thats some serious fish. Surely with all this genetic engineering going on someone can come up with a gene that stops the Kings wanting to migrate to NZ? Rich
tyse01 Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 wow some of those kingies are fat.. well done.. at least i know where i am going for my next fishing trip
denzor Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 Nice work boys, who was the charter with? was it with epic?
The Incredible Hull Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 Holy Moly! lol nice job Trung! Just by looking at the size of those things... your arms must be killing you! I'm at Fiji right now, been on 2 chartered trips, didn't catch massive one but my arms are already sore!
dhype Posted November 25, 2011 Author Posted November 25, 2011 Thats NZ for you fellas! Awesome work there boys bet it was worth it! Where were you based Bay of Islands? One thing about NZ is the variety in fish species is less but they damn well make up for it in size and numbers! We were based and headed out from Whitianga about 2 hours north of Auckland.. Well done looks like a great trip Tobes is a great skipper Hope he had his fine selection of music cranking for u ha Tobie was the best skipper charter operator I have ever been with, his attention to detail was second to none. He worked ever minute to put us all on the fish.. And yes his selection of music was very entertaining! First of all well done boys. Does anyone know of any good charter operators out of Auckland that can put me onto some good kings and or snapper? Got a wedding in late Jan and after this report I have to go fishing while im there now Cheers Cobba wow some of those kingies are fat.. well done.. at least i know where i am going for my next fishing trip NZ kingfish are mental in size and quantity... We were getting 1 king for every 2 drops of the knife jigs... Incredible. Less fish on the livies but all the biggest kings were caught on xoxo large yakkas. Nice work boys, who was the charter with? was it with epic? Yup we went with epic and onboard Tobie's boat... Just came back yesterday and already thinking of heading back.
luderick -angler Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 Whitianga nice part of the world there
night_rider Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 Wow! I hope there was much celebration. Top weekend!
Keflapod Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 Hey Trung, You know how they have student exchange programs in schools ? Well maybe you can start a hoodlum exchange program with NZ ? Next time you go, bring them some bream or flathead or something and in exchange, they can give us some XOS kingies. ...and put them in Botany Bay.... Mate those fish are ridiculous. It looks like someone made a huge plastic blow-up version of a fish and got you guys to pick them up. They are so big that you can just about hide behind them. Lucky boys. The sea also looks calm in the photos. So did any of you guys snare a hapuka ? Those things can top 100kg and would feed the four of you for the year... I bet next time you hoist a good Sydney king for the camera, you'll have the 'Ho-hum" look on your face.... ...but we will all still be very jealous. Tony
ibo07 Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 amazing pictures, congrats on ur excellent catch
bobsta01 Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 Holly crap!, those kings are huge....very jealous. Sounds like a great experience for you guys, well done.
Rode Cary Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 It was indeed a memorable and amazing 2 days fishing with the 3 musketeers in Trung, Tommy and Pete. A few months ago i replied to Trung's message regarding a 4th fisho willing to join and I have no regrets at all. My biggest kingie was caught in Sydney and weighed 3kg. Toby the skipper asked me if I ever caught kingies before, I said hell yeah but when I said it was 3kg he laughed at me and promised that I will catch at least one 10 times that. My first kingie was caught on a livie and guess what? Toby's prediction was very close, it went 29kg on the scale. And what a beast it was, I was in pain and instead of helping me the boys were laughing at me. Apparently my legs were shaking, but hey there's no proof of that! A big thumb up to Toby the skipper who worked his ass off the whole day to put us on the kingies. But the best part of the trip for me is that now I have 3 more friends in my life. I have the reputation of being mischievious, but compare to these guys I'm an angel. If you have your guard down, you'll a smelly in the face......and i had to sleep with 1 eye open!!! Awesome fishing, great company, beautiful part of the world, excellent food....what can you ask for more? Cheers Bert
