Estimating weight of striped Marlin

Mr Pitt

Recommended Posts

G'day Mr Pitt,

The measurement you really need to take is the short length which is from the lower bill to the fork of the tail. To give you an idea a 220cm Short length is approx 70kg,230cm approx 80kg and 240cm approx 90. Those figures come from the chart provided by GFAA.

Are you a member of a club. If so you would have received a copy of the GFAA Gamefishing Journal which has size charts in there. If you aren't there are some available through newsagents although limited stock. I am a member of 2 clubs so do get a second each year so if you wanted to PM me an address I would be happy to mail you one of my extra copies.

I was just wondering if anyone could help estimate the weight of a striped Marlin I caught.

Length was 3 m from bill to back of tail, and girth looked like 0.98m

Cheers

Check out the link here from Lizard Island Game Fishing Club.. easy to print and laminate and you can keep it on your boat with a tape.
