Southern Sydney Rocks

Recommended Posts

LOCATION: INSCRIPTION POINT KURNELL

WHEN TO FISH South South East winds up to 15knots seas less than 1.5metres from the south, not recommended in any swell from the East North East over 1 metre

TIDE Run In first hour of the out

A great spot to learn rock fishing it is well sheltered around from the main ledges of the Holes and Greeny, this spot produces all the usual rock species and it is a matter of finding a suitable ledge in amongst the boulder strewn coast line, an even safer alternate is the rocks and ledges adjacent to the monument at Captain cooks Landing place and the new wharf, this wharf with a long cast over the drop off and a bit of swell running on a making tide will turn on the bream and blackfish.

WHEN and WHERE TO AVOID: TIDES TO 1.6 metres in height are ideal any bigger and you should look at fishing the wharf area avoid the area in big southerly swells 1.5metres plus and any NE swell above 1.25metres, the outer ledges of the National park that encompass Greeny, The Holes, little and Big Yena should be avoided in any swells and by the inexperienced these ledges are all low and slippery Greeny being particularly dangerous as the water sweeps from behind you. I do not recommend going to these places alone or if with other inexperienced people.

Public Transport is limited there is a bus service from Cronulla, your best option is to drive if going into the National Park there is a fee to enter. Phone reception can be patchy.

As for access it is fairly easy and safe, there are angel rings in the area but these are proneto vandalism so don't go there relying on them.

It is fairly easy to get out of this spot should the seas become bigger.

AS ALWAYS CHECK WEATHER AND TIDES BEFORE HITTING THE ROCKS
