What are the terminals labelled? It may have 4 terminal posts: send-tach wire, ign-ignition positive, gnd-ground/earth wire, lt-light positive. If thats the case you probably won't have to have a separate negative wire for the light. It will run from the gnd terminal to the globe within the light or it may just earth the case of the gauge.
