Port Stephens - Trailer boat

Moonshine

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

was wondering if anyone can help out with some GPS coordinates to fish Port Stephens after hearing all the reports of Marlin. Got about a 60 mile range with the 6m Haines Hunter. How far out do I have to head and where is best to launch from coming from Sydney?

By the way came across a log in 24 degrees of water (about 100m depth) about 2 weeks back with some decent size dollies on it. The biggest went 7.5 kg. A smaller one got sharked so I only got the head but then I got the shark (small whaler). Also went last sunday for 2 undersized dollies and a striped tuna.

Thanks Rick

The carpark is well known (google the GPS co-ords), its S.E about 38kn from the mouth of the bay. Can't miss it, it'll have about 30 boats sitting on it. We dropped three marlin on monday out there. Live baiting is best, pulling skippers if that fails. It's the old story, find the bait and the fish will be there.

You can grab bonnies to use as skip bait on the headlands on the way out. Jig up for livies once you get there.

You could also just head Est towards the shelf, its about 45km to the start of the drop. Two weeks ago we had six marlin up through the spread there.

Best boat ramp is at soldiers point and it tends not to be as busy, but its a 10km run to the mouth from there, so if you can stand the crowds shoal bay is good.

Luck with it!

Use the boat ramp at little beach and head out SE 24 miles to 33.02 - 152.26 in 80 fathoms, jig the bait up and the marlin will come. We counted 97 boats out there on Sunday, ranging from a 3.8 savage with a 40 hp tiller steer to 70 foot game boats. Goodluck
