rabb1t
I've seen fish traps which I think are over sand. Would they be catching flathead or is the bottom not really sand (i.e broken bottom etc) and therefore getting reefies? Do flathead swim into those fish traps? rabb1t
I forgot to mention that these are pro traps and are in about 50m of water. Edited April 10, 2012 by rabb1t
Keflapod
Hey Rabb1t, Flathead do not go into pro traps. I did a stint on a pro trapper boat for fun - a few days per week for a couple of months. Very interesting to see what comes up in them traps. Never flathead - they are always trawled. The traps are for reds, bream, trevs, jackets, occasional octopus, and once found a spangled emperor... rabb1t
Cheers Tony. I assume then the pros don't put their traps on bare sand then. I suspect it must be patchy reef/broken bottom then - which is good to know.
