Windang weekend fun

Recommended Posts

Hay Guys what a awesome weekend of fishing!

When down to Windang for a session after watching the Tiger's get a win in a great mood with my mate Ruki. He has never fished with soft plastics before and did really well on his first attempt. Got down to lake Illawarra around 11:30pm and the tide was starting to run out with 2 or 3 other people fishing on and around the bridge.

Got my Buddy all sorted out and gave him a few tips on what to do. Well i didn't have time to set up and he was onto his first fish. After a nice little rum he banks hi first Flatty around 50cm very happy for him. finally got a plastic in the water and landed 3 nice flattys my self then Ruki hooks up 2 casts in a row and pulls 2 nice Whiting and then a few more flatts. That is beginners luck for sure as he pulled 3 good flatts and 2 Whiting he is already planning our next session. Then all goes quiet no hits or for around 1 hour then mu little 4kg outfit pulls up tight then the little size 2000 reel starts screaming. straight away i call it my first Jewfish hooked there after years of trying. Well after a short fight that only lasted a few min (But what a first run i thought) and with the help of my buddy i land mu PB Jew at 75cm. post-20633-090157700 1337565332_thumb.jpgpost-20633-041071300 1337565355_thumb.jpg

Needless to say went home a very stoked man and a big thanks to my mate for getting his feet wet to help me land it.

Well all Saturday was smile from ear to ear when my little brother-in-law comes to me a asked me to take him fishing. Well all the gear was still in the car ready to go. So off we head around the same time same spot. First cast bang onto a nice Flatty about 50cm what a great start then the very next cast the little outfit pulls tight on something that screams off under the bridge never to be seen. Rig back up and back into the Flathead over the next few hours 9 between me and my brother-in-law. It was getting late so we agreed on a few more casts then to head. Then bang on again to something with size and the little reel screams with a massive run but this time not towards the bridge but the other way. I manage to turn this fishes head and get some line back on the spool. Then off it goes again with another run this time at the bridge but manage to stop it after about 10 mins i could see silver flashing in in the water. Its another Jew and bigger then last nights PB whoot whoot. I thought that i had him beat with it in the shallows next to the sand bank. Well time to get the feet (Sorry Ruki that water was freezing) stupid me rushing to land the fish and i do the number 1 no no and grab the leader which was only 12Lb. and with 1 head shake it snapped and i watched this beautiful fish disappear back into the murky water. My little brother said maybe around 90cm i also think the same maybe around 8kgs. Just upset i couldn't get a photo for you guys. But hay 2 Jews in 2 nights i can not complain and can not wait to get back there.

Here is a photo of that nights Flatt's post-20633-070703900 1337565653_thumb.jpg

This is what the jewfish ended up as thanks to my father-in-law post-20633-094673200 1337580493_thumb.jpg

Well done.

That's a good report & some nice pics.

Sounds like you had a heap of fun with some great fish caught.

To get a nice jew is a top effort. To hook a couple of more is outstanding.

Keep a dairy of the exact conditions. A run like that will happen again if the conditions line up at the same time of year.

Cheers,

Grant.

Wind strength & direction, barometric pressure, water temp, any signs of birds or bait, moon phase, stage of the tide when you got the hits & anything else you can think of!

Cheers,

Hay Grant,

Is this info what you would put down?

Temp was 8 deg and water temp was 22deg. 45% cloud cover, 8mph wind from the west. Humidity 79% and bar Pressure 1023mb. No bird activity. Hit at peak low tide with some prawns in the run out.

Is there anything else?

Cheers

Well done on the Jews not too common there. Saw a couple caught off the beach last week, way down from surf club half way to Port Kembla. Good times ahead if they're regulary heading in the lake to breed
