OK! First post on this forum. I have become a member to this site for about 9 months and think its great, i do appreciate everyones post and love checking it on a weekly basis. GO FISH RAIDERS!

ANYWAYS to this fish, which funnily enough, i didn't set out on when i left my house with my German Shepherd.

Well, took my dog for a walk to Echo Point which is pretty much under Roseville Bridge. Started at the Marina which is opposite the main boat ramp. Walked past a bunch of young blokes,

asked any luck? Not a bite was there response. Continued from my from the marina to the picnic park area and there's is one lone fisherman. Two rods out, smoking a ciggy. Asked him, any luck, he says not much happening no action so far.I'm like, good luck mate. Walking up the stairs out of the park area to chuck the pooch in the car and about to head home when i hear this fella scream "salmon! big f*ck*r to!" i thinking BS, this guy is tripping. ill call him a "good mate" because with out him i wouldn't of got this fish. Fu**ing Champ :P ! he spotted the fish and gave me the half pilchard to get this fish aswell so thats why i gave the fish to "crafty".

I turn around thinking this guy has takin some funny mushies or smoked some thing funky, but no. to my surprise i see a massive aus salmon cruising really close to the shore munching away at most things on the surface of the water. leaves, bits of anything floating. told "crafty" (this blokes name) chuck a few chunks of pillies, keep the fish in this area get him/her interested get the burly going so he will hit your bait. He threw about 20 or so bits of pillies out and this salmon was munching away at all the burly , it looked like this fish had not eaten in weeks!!! ( when crafty gutted it didnt have much stomach contents, go figure)

ANYWAYS! crafty through his line out about 4 meters from the shore. paternoster rig chunk if semi chomped on pilly so it didnt look neat(bait presentation wise) and on what looked like 10 kilo line (give or take) Everything very visual fishing, which i absolutely love when i go fishing, seeing the fish take the bait or fly or lure, what ever there is ,something which tickles my fancy when i see a fish take what ever your present to it that gets me going as fisherman. WEll this fish came crusing back munching away, came up to crafys bait came directly at it then about about 20cm or so give or take, looked like it was going to hit it, THEN shifted in the complete opposite direction. Complete Rejection!!! IM GOING NUTS GOING FFS! this fish is on the feed and never seen a salmon down this far in middle harbour. I ask this Bloke can you spare half a pilly? he says no probs! (im rambling a bit in this post sorry)

I sprint of to Grab my two rods from my car.( always have to keep a rod handy is my motto in life.) :) Ultra light gear i had in my car, rods which are weighted at 2-3kilo line compacity. i use these rods for river trout.. (little bit different from a Aus Salmon0 i like fishing as light as possible aswell in winter and in just general, im sure you fishos know all this already. Put on half a pilly, tail end, no weight, just a black swivel with a red mustad hook, hook i'd use for bream fishing.

Couple of casts in different areas, this fish come past a couple of times, try to put it in it the fishes face, landed one cast pretty much in front of him but was neglected. :( chuck it out about 10 meters and left it. picked up spin rod which had metal blade, but not luck with it,the fish did swim infront of the lure at least twice but no luck....

WHILE spinning my metal slice lure, other rod goes of, (im glad i left the drag at low drag.) MAn did this fish run!!! i love the sound of a real pealing line like crazy. music to my ears! Crafty grabbed the rod up first and the fight began! Started at 5:52pm August/24th friday. and after many leaps initially and having to follow the fish left from right in this park, and sooo soooo many runs and about 10 jumps. it was one of my best fights i really have ever had. Aus Salmon are amazing fighting fish.. I Get my i phone from pocket and call my mate who lives the opposite side of rosie bridge and tell him to "get the f**k down hear i need a net to land this fish." Im very glad i have this mate. ( funnily enough when i was up the coast at Umina Beach, fishing with him, he jumped on my rod which was being pulled in by a big salmon, he landed the salmon, pretty much skull dragged this salmon.. i literally casted 4 ,meters out and had a boat rod with 8 kilo line... This is a different story)

ANYWAYS Called my mate whilst in battle with fish> and i said i need a net to land this fish!!He Brings his pool net, about half metre at max width for the net diameter. im going wtf really? how can we get this fish in this net! ... very worried Anyways massive fight got this fish close to the shore. The lactic acid is building up an i can see its tiring. THANK GOD!!

After 3 or 4 pool net swipes, and one run towards the oysters (i shat my pants), and my pool cleaning mate had to block the fish from cutting me off!!! thank god!. We landed my biggest fish in Roseville waters by far. Best part is i did't plan on fishing and it was so spontaneous and fate(ish) that this all happened.

Great report mate  How big was the salmon? There are plenty of salmon down there lately... most of which are around the 60cm mark. There are some VERY big fish in Roseville if you know when and where to fish... Would've been tense when you were trying to get it in the pool net! Was this on the beach or the reserve side?

Cheers, Tom

Nice guess mack attack!

haha forgot to include the size, it was 69cm think i mentioned on 2.2kilo line.

i was trying to upload photos last night but they were to big of download size for this forum. :( BUT figured it out, down sizing the quality i. had to take photo from comp screen so quality will be shitty.

Ps im about 188cm tall so that might give it a better size comparison. didnt get to weight the fish. :( What would a fish of this length,post-23848-078862700 1345857080_thumb.jpg weight on average? im thinking around 3 to 3.5 kilo??

Great fish! Anyone would be happy with 69cm! They go very well on light gear don't they! I'd probably agree around 3-3.5kg...

seen them or another school smashing the bait schools to pieces,

unfortunately i didnt have any lures to match what they were feeding on,

they were feeding on the tiniest little fish you can see right up along the shoreline,

are they "eyes" what there eating?
