keenforafish
Just seeking some advice. Not taking my boat to Nelsons Bay for a weeks holiday in mid December, so I am wondering where I might be able to catch some flaties on soft plastics. Any advices would be appreciated. Staying at a place called Little Beach. Thanks.
rjc123
You can flick the breakewall for the odd flattie but mainly bream, blackies, tailor and a school jew every now and again. Squid can also be caught here. Places like Soldiers point are ok as well as the mouth of the Karuah river. The best flathead are on the northern side in the myall river. The stretch between the bridge and the mouth has plenty of drop offs that hold flatties. The breakwall lining the left side of the river as you head downstream is a great starting point. Plenty of fish around 40-55cm with the a few 65+. The best big flattie spot is nearby. A small creak empties out into the main river. Here, loads of mullet come out on the run out and the flathead wait in ambush. I have managed 3 fish over 85cm here. Know of a fish over a meter having been caught here. You can catch the ferry across from nelson bay and walk the bank and have a flick! Cheers, Tom

Geoff
Staying at a place called Little Beach. Thanks. There is a jetty at the Little Beach boat ramp which is frequently used by LB fisho's but note , about 5-10 mt East of the jetty to Nelson Head ( where the Coastal Patrol is located ) is Marine Park so fishing in this area is not permitted. Map should be available from the local tackle store. I think there is one in the Nelson Bay shopping center. Geoff
