Hacking Fishing

Hey guys,

After six long months of not fishing finally got a pass out from the misses and hit the hacking early with a bunch of mates. After launching off from Yowie Bay early headed up to grays point looking to target a few bream.Unfortunately our baits kept being fouled up by brown weed, though we were still able to catch a 33cm bream, a good size trevally and a salmon.

After getting tired of all the weed we moved over to the moored boats to try our luck. It just so happended that a school of tailor where sitting beneath these boats, and within a space of 10 minutes landed a 40cm and a 50cm tailor. As we were fishing with light bream rigs, we constantly being bitten off by the tailor once we hooked them up. By the time we upped our leaders and tried again for them the tailor had moved on and the salmon came in. We landed 4 salmon and lost the same number at the boat in a space of an hour. Once the bite when cold we tried a few other spots including great teriell bay and gymea bay for zip and called it a day.

All in all a bit of fun and it was good to get out there and catch a few.

All fish were caught on WA pillies and the water temp was about 17 degrees.

Thanks

Anthony

Good catch mate i didn think salmon went as far as greys point hopefully some fish around on the weekend

The salmon will swim wherever there is food, heard they were also right up South West Arm. Have caught them and seen them swimming in water half a metre deep around Lilli Pilli.

Thanks guys,

Yeah the fishing is pretty difficult in the hacking if it is a clear sunny day on the water. I find that as soon as the sun hits the water you are better off fishing the shadows - under boats, pontoons etc especially in the deeper water.

If it is a cloudly day with a bit of a breeze breaking the surface of the water, combined with a high tide then it is staight to fishing off the flats for bream. In particular the flats at lilli pilli.

good luck.

Tried the Lilli Pilli flats this morning (Wednesday) for 7 whiting to 36cm on nippers, plus plenty of undersize ones. Took a while to find the fish. Returned to my mother's place in Gunnamatta Bay to put the boat away and saw a couple of bream about. Only hooked one but it was fat one at 38cm.
