Myall Lakes

As I said in the previous thread, this should be read in conjunction with the first thread.

This submission is in regards to the Myall Lakes/Port Stephens area, and I realise it has significance to most of us as it is a popular holiday area.

For Port Stephens/ Myall Lakes/Upper Myall Region:

1) Aquaculture: - To be restricted such that it does not impose on the existing recreational amenity of the Port. That it does not affect the existing natural systems in any way – no pollutants, no anti-biotics, no bacteria, no viruses and no impact on existing ecology or environments. It causes no destruction of seagrass beds, no hot or cold-water pollution, no impact on water clarity and no turbidity. Aquaculture is not to interfere with fishing.

2) That there be no restrictions on recreational fishing in or around the Port including no restrictions from beaches and rocks/headlands and from boats around the same.

3) That beach access is guaranteed for 4wd from Treachery Headland to Yaccaba Headland.

4) That there be no restriction on the number of 4wd’s issued using a permit system.

5) That all types of boating be guaranteed on all lakes: - Myall, Boolambayte, Two Mile and the Bombah Broadwater including water-skiing and seaplanes.

6) That the Minister guarantee the existing right of the Broughton Island hut owners and that they be charged a reasonable/fair rent- being in mind that many of them are pensioners.

7) A minimum of 600 campsites in the Myall National Park excluding Myall Shores commercial park, such that people can camp with their bum in the tent and their feet in the water- as of before.

8) A reasonable tariff is charged for Mungo Brush not exceeding $10.00 per day for a family of 4 and to include vehicle access.

9) Existing beach access roads at Hawks Nest, Lemon Trees and Mungo Brush along with Sandy Point are maintained.

10) A boardwalk for 4wd is constructed in the vicinity of the Little Gibber to provide additional access to the beach.

11) A sewer line to go from Myall Shores Tourist Park to Bulahdelah to remove all effluent from the site and thus stop any effluent from entering class P protected water and a Ramsar Listed Wetland.

This submission is the baby of Paul Henelly. He is a local in that area and is standing as a candidate for The Fishing Party. He has had prior success in procurring extra camp sites in a park that the Greens wanted closed to the public in 2001.

Paul Henelley`s credentials are impeccable. He is the Environmental Officer for The Fishing Party, as well as the chief Economist. He was involved in instrumental research for some previous reports regarding fish kills and water pollutants in certain areas of the State.

Again, any comments are welcomed.
