Hull Width

Hi, in our nanny state that is NSW yes that is the case and is pretty much the same around Oz but it would not surprise me to find NT do not have such laws-you should find that out first. If so, then yes it can be a pain to tow the boat and my advise would be called Mayfair Marine in QLD, who make the Tinka and Redco trailer and talk to James.

Cheers,

Huey.

Josh The other aspect to consider is the height of the boat on the trailer.

Wide mono hulls are OK due to the V shap hull allowing the boat to sit over the mudguards & still be at a reasonable height.

With a twin hull , where the beam is greater than 2.0mt , this is normally not possible as the hull sits on top of the guards making the boat rather high .

It is not necessarly a drama , just something to keep in mind.

Yeh ive got the permits n spoke with RTA, MVR, DOT QLD, VICROADS and its all sweet. Height is not an issue....look at the 3000 Sailfish, it is 3.8m high on the trailer and in the NT all the power cables are over 5m high...same with all the roads ill be driving due to mining equipment and cattle trucks.

I found out the just make the hulls wider....which is the answer to my question.

BTW if anyone is looking at oversize boats in NT/QLD its 3.5m without escort vehicle and bout $40 for 3 year permit. Goes through same day .

ah thats good news about the permit lasting so long i dont know why but i always thought a permit was something u needed to apply for each time u towed the boat :D

Depends how long you get it for. I filled mine out today and will submit it closer to when I purchase the boat but I left the end date blank and the route blank. Put location from as my home address and the to location as various.

Very simple and i wonder how many people have not gotten the boat they wanted cause of this reason. Driving during the day means you only get a 12hr drive in but thats ok I guess

2.5m wide is all that is allowed in NSW be it a truck of trailer without a permit. That's the problem with trailcraft, they were 2.55m wide which was legal in the state they were made but illegal here which all the dealers who sold other brands went to great lengths to point out. You had to get a permit to be legal. I was always worried when trailering mine because if I had an accident my insurance would have disowned me. Your lucky if the rules let you drive oversize where you are I have been done for 2.65 wide on my truck and that was on a country road.

I'm in NSW. When I got booked it was for a skidsteer we had on sideways and the darn thing moved a little on winding road and over hung one side by 15cm and I had a ----- of a RTA officer looking to up his quota, I would suspect. Any way it went to court and was dismissed without loss of points but I still got hit with court cost!
