Stapo
After the recent rain The Entrance is slowly recovering, the water level is dropping and the water quality is a bit better up to the bridge on the run in tide.Past the bridge is a different story, it's still very dirty. Not bothering to fish for the past few weeks due to weather and bad reports we did get some nice flatties on the weekend. Good size around the 50cm a couple around 65cm but only on the run in tide which only lasts about 2 hours. The bridge area on the ocean side is the best spot as the water is better quality, work the edges of the sand bars using soft plastics. The South Channel is a waste of time, the water is still a mess. The Main Channel to Pelican Island does clear a bit but still has plenty of ribbon weed and very messy. Some nice bream have been caught in the North Channel near three ways using chicken fillets, also the boy's have been getting a few bream on the jetties early in the mornings. Being a weekend fisherman I have to rely on others for information. Word has it that nice whiting are being caught on the beach using live beach worms. No perch and no prawns, been a great season though, so can't complain about that. Getting close to Black Fishing season but there is no weed it is all dead at the moment, but will grow soon if we don't get any rain. Cheers Steve. Mate, Ive been fishing the past 3 mornings off my property in ourimbah creek i've been getting nothing but perch almost every cast in some locations using simple plastics (land based) - Bream are slowly re-claiming their snags within the creek

Catchin Jack
Only way it's going to recover is stop commercial fishermen and stop recreational fishermen raping and pillaging all the fish, the combination of both of these is destroying our waterway. That's not going to happen because Easter is two weeks away and you know what that means. A 6month fishing ban would really bring it back to life until it gets destroyed at summer again
barberonhigh
What I saw for the last 3 times I was up there fishing at night a boat on the northern side had big nets in the water and pulling heaps of prawns are they allowed to do that ? Or are they doing researches ? Can someone explain?? Cheers
qnut
Only way it's going to recover is stop commercial fishermen and stop recreational fishermen raping and pillaging all the fish, the combination of both of these is destroying our waterway. I've heard from multipul sources that: "IF they banned commercial fishing tomorrow - it would take a FULL 10 years for the lake to 'fully recover" Living near the end of chittaway point myself, Every morning theres 3 to 6 'prof' boats net hauling off the point accompanied by atleast 100 pelicans making sure no bycatch gets away. As it stands there are 130+ licenses allowing holders to use the lake. Back on Topic: This morning was another successful EP haul- mostly in the 10-25cm range taken on squidgy wrigglers in blood-worm. The Bream again seem to be off the chew even on fresh banana prawns. You'r best bet for fishing the lakes at the moment are in and around the mouths of Wyong & Ourimbah Creeks.

We're heading up there this arvo (for the weekend).... Hope the water has cleared up a bit.... Have you noticed if the fishing has improved since the dredging is completed??..... We were up there last November and the entrance & main channel had silted up heaps.... the fishing was much tougher than last couple years... Stapo
No, the water has not cleared up as yet, will take a couple of weeks and only if we get no more rain. I got mid week reports of poor catches of flathead it's very hit and miss at the moment. It does clear a bit like I said on the run in tide but only around the bridge area. I'd suggest fishing around there if you have a boat. The dredge was a waist of time, It's back to what it was just after he left. But look, there has always been heaps of sand down around that area, as long as it stay's open to the sea is the most important thing, in my view anyway. Yep Water is still very Dirty - Fresh water weirs are still moderatley flowing, so the system still needs a couple of weeks clean up assuming no rain. My personal catches within tuggerah lakes creeks have been VERY hit and miss. Still yet to catch a bream on plastics since the last dump & Estuary Perch are there but are very hard to pinpoint. The Dredging was a failure since the recent mass-exodus of fresh water from the lakes have preety much redeposited what the dredger removed. ::PROTIP:: Try the outer entrance channels during the start of the run-in for flathead. The hour that the channel slows at low or high tide for whiting on surface poppers. Mouths of the major creeks (using bait) for Bream. (lures) for E.P EDIT: Nth Entrance Beach apparently doing well for Salmon & whiting. Edited March 15, 2013 by Qnut

qnut
I've been going there for the last 12 years now and never saw a commercial fishing boat there, how come this year they are around?? Look for vessels sporting the Rego numbers "LFB XXXXX" - Liscenced Fishing Boat. Horrible day yesterday using baits (banana prawns). Was having better luck with plastics and perch that morning

We stayed up there Fri-Sunday last weekend. Fishing was "ok" as we caught fair few flatties between us, most around 40cm.... couple 50cm ones and released a nice 66cm girl.... As others have said, the water is clear up to the bridge area... any further up gets dirty real quick.....
iconnolly
Although I haven't been up there for a few years, I too have been disturbed by the nets at the Entrance. The net I saw seemed to be spread nearly all the way across the actual entrance. I once caught 3 kilos of prawns in about an hour on a night when the net was there. Plus some bottle squid and crabs. I shudder to think how much would have gone into that net. More than half of the crabs I saw were females full of eggs too. What does that do for crab numbers? We have had great days fishing on our doorstep ourimbah creek a feeder system to Tuggerah Lake for Bream & Perch suddenly shut down only to learn that a few blokes up the road saw the commerical fishos at night hauling nets through a creek. In a few months time it will be a common sight to see ATLEAST 3-6 boats per morning offloading bycatch on the weedbeds next to geoffrey road chittaway point. Welcome to tuggerah lakes, Enjoy your fishing whilst it lasts Edited September 19, 2013 by Qnut
