Scent Blazer Lures Posted May 29, 2013 Share Posted May 29, 2013 With whispers of marlin off our coast the scent blazer crew got together for what would be a last shot of a marlin for this season. As the Marlin season or lack there of comes to an end we decided it was only right that we got out and had a search around and see if we could raise a late fish or and early Fin, our plan was to head out to the shelf area and see if we could find anything. The day started in the berth, with the boat ready to go we dropped the lines and casually motored up the harbour to Lavender Bay where we would pick up the remainder of the crew before a quick fuel stop and then out to sea. The Fog slowly lifting off Sydney Harbour On our approach to the heads the swell was washing over south head and pounding North head but on the horizon was calm seas and what we hoped, fish a plentiful… As we passed the back swell bouncing off the cliff faces the sea got into that rolling rhythm and we headed north east to the Sydney FAD as the surface temp was 21.8 and blue, we were hoping to find a nice dolly but on our arrival it was completely void of anything fishy! After doing a few passes for no joy we headed further northeast to the Manly Hydraulics Buoy, on our approach to the mark we have fished many times before but it was gone!! If its choppy in close its worth passing through it as its usually calm on the other side of the back swell bouncing off the cliffs Now the Manly Hydraulics website is updating info that’s streaming from the buoy but the buoy is nowhere to be found? We looked a few miles in each direction from the marks we have and nothing, has anyone fished it in the past week? As we couldn’t find the buoy we decided to head east into deeper water towards the shelf where we changed the lures and added a few Scent Blazer Large and Mediums to the spread. We loaded the lures this striped Tuna we had caught last trip and begun our trip out to the shelf. The water temp was rapidly dropping the further east we trolled, it fell to 20.1 from 21.8 in a short period but that break held no bait or importantly, no fish! Checking your gear before putting your lures out is a must as wear and tear takes its toll on terminal tackle As we reached the 60fathom mark we were greeted by a slight temp change and increased bird activity but again no predatory fish, we had every size lure in the spread from 12inch right down to 4inch (Prototype) and everything in between. We also ran a chain of Scent Blazer teasers loaded with striped tuna and pilchards, we load the lures with the same bait as we load the teasers with, this helps the fish to find the lures as they hone in on one smell and don’t have to determine what the other smells are. We loaded this Scent Blazer Skipjack with actual skipjack, now the lure not only looks like a skipjack it tastes like one to. As we reached the shelf we decided to follow the shelf line from the bait station south, we zig zagged our way down the shelf with an entourage of Tuna Birds, Gannets, Mutton birds and the odd Albatross, I think they thought we knew were the fish were but we also had the same intentions towards them but the further we trolled the less the birds followed… we continued south till the clouds engulfed the sun and darkness filled the sky… Birds often know where the bait and fish are so keep and eye out for circling and or diving birds as they could find the fish before you do... As the day was overcast we added lights as well as bait to the lures to make the lures more visible. We covered some serious ground in the search of something fishy, a marlin or a tuna, anything but it was not to be so we trolled into the night. It seem as though the marlin season is over and now we just await the arrival of Big Sickled friends the Yellow Fin Tuna. There is a nice break wide off Sydney that the long liners are pulling good fish from, lets hope the current pushes in and brings with it plenty of big barrels!! Keeping a close eye on your lures is essential as getting tangles can cost fishing time and can damage gear. Awesome!! you'll love it:) Nuh we just use the Wi Fi and view it through the iPad or on our iPhones. The gopros can go down to 60m depth just curious to see how far you can get it before it stops communicating thats all, seems like a pretty good option as a sounder add on Hey Down to fish, From what i understand the WiFi doesn't work underwater or through the prop wash, can anyone shed some light on this? Simda Posted June 8, 2013 Share Posted June 8, 2013 Yes Wifi does not work through water I read a story of someone that made a custom waterproof LAN link to relay the signal through the water, can remember the exact details but i found it on google so if you are really keen it should be easy to find if you search gopro underwater wifi etc Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
