  1. Kayakers are so pesky and frustrating ! I've had a number hook my jigs while paddling across my line and not even stop when I'm yelling at them to stop paddling
  2. The south size of nuggan head is great to fish. Sand bottom and has always produced fish when ever I've fished it over the years, pillies and prawns worked best, I've fished the north side and always got snagged and didn't catch a thing. Be mindful if there are guys out surfing the wedge reef in regards to burley as its a pretty sharky spot and not fun when your out in the water and you see someone pumping burley into the water 50m away from you...
  3. Hey mate I went down there a few years ago, there's a lake at the southern end of the main beach which produces heaps of fish. Last time there I fished the river mouth on the run out of the tide as the sun was going down, only spent 30 mins flicking an 80mm bloodworm wriggler and landed a nice Flatty about 50cms. There's always heaps of whiting on the flats as well and tried plenty of times with poppers to catch em but had no luck
  4. It seems like a good option as built in brush etc and relatively cheap, has anyone tried it? I've got an old hard body that is a great lure but after a few years of use its looking a bit worse for wear and wanted to give the old girl a touch up!
  5. Solid mate are you catching these land based or on a boat/kayak?
  6. For the large glow stick I drop down under the boat I usually go for blue or white if I can get them at the shops by yellow will do the job as well. White will be the best as its the brightest of them all
  7. Buy a blow torch and get the kepi mayo an teriyaki sauce from sushi train tastes freaking amazing !!!!
  8. I use kwells and caffeine tablets combined together, works perfectly. Avoid dairy products as makes it worse
  9. The kings in Aus aren't known as much for taking a salmon live bait like they do in NZ for some reason. Plenty of guys have hooked big kings on a fat bonnie as well, they punch well above their weight that's for sure
  10. The mustard hooks are still good quality but I don't think they sell em in Kmart anymore only big w. stay nice and sharp. I find the Kmart stuff doesn't hook up as cleanly
  11. 2 different spots but very close to each other, probably your best first option, in a strong wind you'll have trouble getting out there in you boat though so always proceed with caution and turn around if it doesn't feel safe
  12. Mate has a 540 freedom sport and never has to use it to empty. Sometimes we come back with 1/4 of a tank left when we refil but the gauge isn't too flash. What engine have you got ? And where abouts are you planning on fishing. We comfortably get to 12 mile and back via long reef in a bit of wind and have 1/4 left most trips if we leave from Davidson park out through the heads, engine is a 100HP Yamaha 4 stroke. That's with 2 people on board. Add more petrol for extra wind, travel time, engine differences and people on board
  13. Sometimes after bad weather there is leaves built up around the tyres and all over the covers, other times its spotless, parking inspectors are exactly known for using their brains and common sense either !
  14. I used to have a pretty long leader and saw on al mcg's videos he uses a really short leader (approx 30-40cm only) and changed to that, far less tangles under water and impoved catch rate. Might depend how your fishing though. I run a large round sinker to big barrel swivel off the braid then leader when I am live baiting a yakka as its easier to set tue depth for it, if I'm using stripped squid ill usually run a lighter bean sinker but everything else the same, again with a shorter leader has worked a lot better.
  15. So we fish every second weekend and park the boat in the only parking space on the street outside the house in manly, as this is the best spot for washing and cleaning the boat. How do they determine the boat has been continually parked for 3 months if we actually use it every 2 weeks ?
  16. We weren't getting anything until we found a ball of bait as some good marks and anchored up, drift was too strong but as soon as we anchored up and set out some livie a we started hooking a few fish until they went off the bite. Only had yakkas but squid on othe boats kept doing damage after we stopped hooking up on yakkas, most fish undersized though
  17. I'm wanting to do some squiding some nights after work during the week but have no idea where to go? If anyone is looking for someone to go squdding with let me know. I work In Ryde and live in Deewhy, have all my own equip. Or just some tips on where to go. Not looking for any rocky type areas just wharves etc thanks
  18. Hey mate a few tricks I try Single squid jig instead of the 3 jig rig you mention (let's face it 3 times the jigs isn't getting you the results with squid so might as well change!) Glow stick all good just above the drop loop, another thing I do is get a big glow stick in white and drop it down under the boat with some heavy sinkers, sometimes about 5m down. Works a treat ! Good luck man, we never used to catch squid at the spit until I started using the glow sticks now we get a few before the sun comes up but yeah larger calamari are better as you get way more, but it's handy having a few squid on the board from the beginning
  19. Probably a bit too light for the line rating with your reel, probably a shimano king stick will suit which is 6-10kg but heavy duty and designed for targeting kings in Sydney or something about 10-15kg. I've got both and both hold up really well, I actually have the 10-15kg rod with 30LB braid and the 6-10 with 50LB braid but that's just the way I fish really, the 10-15kg rod isn't as well built as the shimano
  20. The 2 don't live together very well and after the water cleaned up from the squid inking, 2 of them were chewing on 2 yakkas haha so we don't put them together again!
  21. Mono will suit off the rocks but if you wana win those close battles braid will be necessary, the feel of braid is much harder when you hook a fish compared to mono but at the end of the day does you dad prefer to land more fish or not as many? That might change his preference. Not all mono is equal as well but black magic is pretty good, might wana go a bit heavier though if you find your not joking fish. Sometimes the smallest kings can destroy you on 30lb line and other times you'll land bigger ones and not give you as much as a fight, so it's hit and miss really, good luck !
  22. I spoke too soon ! Pretty much 2 years old and the old pump died ! Replaced and re-wired it all at a cost of $20 which isn't too bad and had to replace the bottom of our barrel fitting as it broke in the sun with a brass one, pretty good value for money! Worked out that the tank keeps filling if we drive with the pump turned on ( water is being forced through the pump while driving) so no need to keep turning it off
  23. Last summer fishing in shallow water for kings we had this problem (about 14m) and kept getting reefed before I could get the holder out, so I tightened up the drag and held the rod in my hand, meant I could give a little to help the hook set and strike then it'd be a short but super intense fight against the fish to turn its head, was serious fun ! Lost a few still as only fishing 50LB Leader but managed to get in a few before running out of bait
  24. Where'd you go for a swim? We spotted a pretty sizey shark in middle harbour on sat morning, lurking off that point in little manly!
