locodave
What kind of birds are these? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uJdgEOwyPmc They are like aeroplanes, they fly really low and then hand around the back of your boat and steal your bait. A lot of the time they get hooked! They are really annoying!! BTW the video is not mine. That is from the Fishing reports section.

adkel53
"Mutton Birds" - correctly known as Short-tailed Shearwaters. They have a fascinating life history and undertake one of the longest migrations known in the bird kingdom - some 30,000 km each year. Currently they are around in huge numbers as they are returning to their breeding grounds as part of this migration. Read about them here: http://www.parks.tas.gov.au/?base=5100 Well worth a read and it might give you a different perspective on these amazing birds! Or This Youtube clip tells their story: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SS5iWyWEAJk

adkel53
No worries Ian. I've seen them in their nests in Tasmania and along the Great Ocean Road. Very cute (and fat) little birds - hence their desirability as food for some. Each to their own!!

Benzeenees
I tried eating one - it was in a restaurant in either Tasmania or NZ. Disgusting. Like a cross between a stringy old chicken and a kipper. Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk
