Pegging live baits to bridges

Hi team!

Hope you've all been having some luck this spring. Just wanted to see if any raiders out there have heard of using a peg to hold the line with a live bait when fishing from land around bridges.

A few people around this area have mentioned that it's done here frequently to catch some good size jewies. I've had a crack at my own version but I know it's not right. How is it done properly? How do you get the livie to stay deeper without snagging? Is there a better alternative?
