oz_brett
Hi Guys with so many people having Lowrance HDS sounders now days I would like to know how deep they are getting with the 50/200 transducer? Im thinking of upgrading, Had a great run from Humminbird & not sure if I should change to Lowrance or not as I know the menu's on Humminbird they say they are good for about 450m (my currant one gets close to that) & I know they are waterproof (lowrance just say they are weather proof) Any help/ advise would be good. ecura
Hi Brett I run a HDS5 and my sounder reads the bottom at cruising speed until about 400m. That doesnt bother me though because usuall when cruising speed I am only interested in the top 50m of water. Once at rest I can read the bottom at browns. HDS5 Gen1 1kw 50/200hz Hope this is useful. LeoB
G'day I can get readings on bottom at browns 450-500m, not perfect but enough to find structure. But to do this you will need to read up on a bit of theory behind how sonar works, ie set a depth limit and slowing ping speed. As mentioned before, when trolling we usually set an upper and lower limit usually 50-100m. Cheers Leo
