Nolongeramember
I always see people stating the speed and direction of the current while they have been out fishing. Usually offshore. My question is how do you know? Do you just get a GPS speed on how fast your boat is drifting? What about the wind speeding up or slowing your drift? boattart
Obviously wind will also affect your drift but yes you use your GPS and make some allowance for wind. Also if trolling by watching you speed variance as you change direction you can work it out. For instance assume the current is a simple north to south. If you troll north and you are making 5 knots over the ground but when turning south you are making 10 knots at the same revs then the current is 2.5knot (helping you in one direction and hindering in the other). It's not an exact method but that's the general idea.
