Pick up for bait tank pump

Hi Dave

I cannot find any pics at present but will try to take some later today.

The easiest way to mount a bait pump is to use a sliding bracket that allows you to move the pump and pick up up and down to a position where it sits best. The brackets are available from Whitworths.

If your boat has planing strakes I would mount the pump in line with a strake that is about one third in from the edge of the boat.

I will get more details later today.

Cheers

Ok, no pics yet but here are the bits that you will need. Google the Whitworth catalogue to see pics of the items.

1 Transducer bracket Sku 323 $48.95

2 Pump base (for Rule pump that I use) Sku 66806 $12.95

3 Water scoop pump base. Sku 93065 $46.95

The scoop allows water to flow through the pump into the bait tank when you are underway.

Screw the bracket onto the back of the transom, Make sure that you seal the screws with Sikaflex.

Screw the Pump base onto the water scoop.

Slide the pump base into the bracket.

Clip the pump into the pump base

Fit a reinforced hose onto the outlet of the pump. I use a black hose sold by Whitworths, later pics will show how.

I have fitted an isolating valve in the pump outlet to stop the pick up filling the bait tank when I am not using it.

And don't forget that the outlet from your bait tank needs to be larger than the intake. Otherwise you will have water overflowing the tank

Hope all of this helps.

Cheers

Hi Dave

I have mounted my pump and intake onto some waterproof ply

It hooks onto the transom and bolts on at the bottom.

When I want to use the scoop I just push it down and twist it to face forwards

All the piping is 20mm electrical conduit available at Bunning’s.

When on the plane the scoop needs a tap to reduce the flow.

Hope this helps

Here is the correct position for the bracket. Note the position of the pick up pipe.

If mounted in this position a bracket to slide the unit up or down is not necessary.

If you have some scrap aluminium around & the spout from one of those cartriges like "No More Gaps" make one of these & save $47.00.
