Casting Decks In Seajay 3.9m Nomad

I've just purchased my new boat a 3.9m seajay nomad with 25hp yamaha 2 stroke

I'd like to put a floor and casting deck in. I'm looking for an aluminum fabricator around the sydney area to weld in some aluminum frame work for the floor and deck any help would be appreciated? I'm also after some advise on bow mounted electric motors and the amount of thrust required to push my size boat around comfortably my boat has a bow mount plate fitted so mounting shouldn't be a problem.

GDay Jackell,

You can buy a genuine casting deck direct from Seajay, im sure that these decks are a factory option so you should be able to fit one in without too much trouble.

Dont know if you going to need to do too much welding, id check with a Dealer first, in case there is an easier option. Check the Seajay site for options too.

Not an expert on electric motors but a 55pounder should do the trick on a 3.9. MinnKota Riptide will set you back about 1400 bucks from memory. There is other options around though. Motor Guide and Minn Kota are the most popular with some guys liking cable control and others like electric solinoid control. Maybe some other members can better comment on this though.

Cheers :biggrin2:

You can build your own casting decks for less than half than if you get someone else to do it for you.

Total cost about $350 to $400 for floor, decks, console and carpet, a carton of beer and 2 solid days working at it.

If you need any advise on DIY just pm me or email rthunder69@hotmail.com

Cheers, Allan

Gday Brad,

Its an everything box :1naughty: got speakers, radio, fluro light, sounder(not in pic) gps (not in pic), battery to run it all and a STUBBY HOLDER :1clap:

The switch panel works the bilge, nav lights, fluro, and passenger eject seat :074:

I've got 2 spare switches so it can be organised, although I dont fish crowded areas so it may not be warranted :074::074::074:

I was thinking of plumbing the box and putting a dunny seat on the top tho, with toilet roll holder on the side :risata:

Cheers, Allan

Geez Jackell,

I think that you may want to have a look at my little thing cause that is exactly what I made.

It's a 3.9m Nomad with 25 hp hi tech two stroke Yamaha, fully welded floor with casting deck up front and down the back, I had an aluminium fabricator do the welding for me and it is rock solid (three years now).To give you a rough idea the platform at the front has a plate welded to the thwart that goes to the bottom edge of the anchor well.

The same with the rear,it to is flush with the rear thwart. The floor is supported by ribs that were fabricated and welded to the exisiting frame. There is four hatches using SS piano hinges that hide the two fuel tanks, safety gear and spare anchors etc etc.

There is a few photos of the boat in the background /foreground in the brag section with I think a cobia and a small yellowfin. If you want to have a look at the boat that is okay by me,just PM me and I will give you my mobile No.

Cheers Simon

Thank's simon that's exactly what i'm after, can I ask who done the welding for you and how much did it cost? also how does the boat run with the extra weight of the decks?

The Welding cost around the $1000 mark, there was a few bits and pieces that were "negotiated".It was done by a guy down at kogarah who specialised in sheet fabrication. I had some special additional fabrication work done which included two seats (fold down swivel jobs),and fixed the lack of a bollard on the front .Once the welding job was done I took it to a smash repair place and got the boat painted in two pack, navy out side, white on the inside .

I became quite friendly with the guys at Bias at parramatta while I was fitting all the other bits,ie live bait tank, radio, lights, bilge pumps (2) ,GPS,sounders etc etc etc .

The boat now weighs about three times what the bare hull weighed. It is however about 6 times better. There was a few things that you may want to take into account. When getting the welding done ,get them to weld a bracket at the back of the boat similar to the ones on the back of the quitrex's to hold the transducer and venturi.

The boat handles the weight no problem at all,and top speed is around the 25 km mark which is fine by me,I have it set to plane at 12 km ,this is with me using a throttle extension and two up.Under the floor is stuffed with foam and it is unsinkable.......I reckon :risata:
