kyngfish
Hi Guys, I just put a new winch strap on the trailer and noticed at the end when I pulled it up tight it is slipping against the weight of the boat. Is the strap too long or is this what happens when there first installed?
Marlin01
Sometimes the strap, especially when wound on loose, gives the appearance of slipping on the winch drum. If his is the case just keep winding and the slack will soon be wound out. Cheers Marlin

locodave
Did you drive up or push the boat most of the way up? If its fairly new and if you can, try and winch it up with a few metres of the strap out. That way it will be tight all around the drum. Then next time it will grab on more and u dont have to do it that way.
kyngfish
Hi Dave, No the boat was already on the trailer on dry land. I took it out yesterday and when we brought it back in and put it on the trailer the ratchet was not working. I found the pin sitting on the winch. Anyway got the boat on, tapped the pin back in but when we got home it was half way out. Looks like I need to flange it or put a split pin in. So I think it is still slipping as I cannot winch it up 100% tight.
