chokpa
Hi Guys I've been having a hit and miss time getting yakkas recently. Can you burley them up from pretty much anywhere along the harbour if you have some decent burley and bit of weed/rocks around? What if its only large rocks without much weed? I'm not sure if ive been unlucky or have been going to the wrong places entirely! Cheers
wise one
You can, but it may take a long time if the yakka's aren't nearby... Better to stick with well known locations that yakka's frequent. Examples: Watsons bay wharf Clifton Gardens Sow & Pigs reef The "island" at Balmoral Balmoral wharf The gas Works at Little Manly Inside North Head to Quarantine point and bay You will generally have better success down the "bottom" of the harbour, nearer the ocean where the water is cleaner. Once you've identified a couple of spots that work, you should have no problem in future trips. Good luck
chokpa
Thanks! I seem to have found a place that will produce 2 large yakkas most times I go. Is that an indication that there are more around? I can never seem to best two. I will try with some DIY burley bombs and see if I fare any better. I'll try fishing deeper also, been getting way too much sweep
benm
If all you get is sweep, I would try elsewhere. Sometimes, even though the water is full of yakkas, you drop down a sabiki rig and every hook will have a sweep on it as they tend to bite first. chokpa
Yeah fair enough. Would yakka be around areas with mostly large rocks and not much weed? I had a place like that which mostly produced baby bream and snapper

I would add the wharf at Rose bay to that list for a smaller average sized yakka.
Twinfisher 4.9
Structure - either natural or man made will often hold yakkas. Your sounder is always your best friend, followed by burley.
