  1. I've recently gotten into slide baiting and been doing some research. Obviously when you fish a beach youre usually fishing structure in the form of gutters, holes etc. However from what I can tell, when you are slide baiting the only goal is to chuck it as far as you can past the breakers. Is this correct? I was led the believe that casting it past the breakers into a patch of open sand is unproductive as its structureless. Or am I meant to be looking for specific structure that is suitable for slide baiting? Cheers!
  2. I saw some guys had an excavator opening the channel up last weekend. What did the locals think? Did it actually help?
  3. I read the water will still be too brown this weekend given rain again today and maybe tomorrow. I went last weekend and it was chocolate brown.. very quiet
  4. to be honest i find in summer most of the jettys are packed anyway, and ancedotally its full of people i dont want to fish with. messy and grub. the state of them sometimes is appalling. i dont blame local residents for wanting to ban fishing on some of them.
  5. I like trions. Ive got a 1-3kg one for 70$ and it's great

    Fresh Squid?

do you mean the squid tubes? i dont recall ever seeing whole ones in supermarkets and yes i ve also heard lund squid will be gone for a few months as the catch is not good in california this year
  7. go at low tide to see the structure then mark out where you want to fish and come back at high. going at night to look for gutters and holes is difficult. also it can be hard to see structure when the swell it too high or low as it wont be as obvious.. i also find it nearly impossible to spot structure if im at water level unless there is a huge huge hole with 0 water at all
  8. If you strip bait you only use a single hook? I've been hanging or snelling mine. Can't decide what's better. Sometimes gangs snap, but Snell's can be bitten through.. hmm Guess will try both So in summary, fillet instead of cutlet. Two sides and a head. Suspend about 2m below the surface
  9. Cheers Do you pin the head via the nose and lob it out? I'd have thought head would have similar issues to a cutlet? It'd be a hunk of meat that doesn't have much action/movement?
  10. Yep I mean cross sections of the fish, so round cutlets not fillets. I've seen people use tailor cutlets for mulloway so figured it'd translate to king's potentially
  11. What berley mix are you using and how often do you throw it in the water? I'm using prawn crush, bread and a dash of tuna oil. Might mix in some oats in the future to give it a bit more body. Will try it out on my next trip👍 Yeah I hate it when the livies swim back. Drives me nuts
  12. Do you 2 hook snell a strip or use a single hook? How far beneath the surface do you generally present the bait? I usually do around 2m I do do that sometimes but it can be inconsistent on the day.
  13. Thanks! I usually have 2 rods out, one baited and one with lures. Catching squid isn't reliable at my spot but maybe those California squid will be my backup instead. I just figured that if they are live yakkas salted would be ok too? Do you always present your baits under a float? I find the bottom has too many pickers
  14. You should be able to rent a boat in the Hawkesbury or maybe some parts of the harbour without a boat license. There should be charters around 150 to 250pp. If you want to maximise your chances of catching a fish maybe bite the bullet? They are pros after all
  15. Anyone have experience using this? I caught some 30cm yakkas and decided to salt and use them as bait. I chucked some decent cutlets out on a 2 hook snell rig and they didn't get a single bite, not even from pickers! Though it was a slow fishing day anyway, i did know the area i was in was full on baby snapper and trevally. I'm wondering if it will appeal to a king, as i'd like to break my duck this summer. Surprisingly I couldnt find too much about it. I read some articles about butterflying them but surely if butterflying works, cutlets must work too? Cheers
