rockfisherman Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 Hi Raiders Just wondering what hooks (brand and size) raiders are using for pigs. I'm using gamakatsu live bait 1/0 atm. Harry Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
elferoz777 Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 I have bern using number 4 mustad bait holders. Big hooks that take a whole peeled prawn but I have great success with them.
luderick -angler Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Mustad 542 from #4 to 1/0 they are a 2x strong French hook very effective
macman Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Number 4s in a 2x , Mustad, I also bought some boxes of Youvella hooks in a similar pattern few years back, and still using them. I use bigger hooks when targeting bream with bread and prawns, #1 or 1/0 even, you will still get pigs on these, but when I know there are pigs around, the number 4s get preference. Matt
rockfisherman Posted April 28, 2014 Author Posted April 28, 2014 I must be blind... I can't find the mustad 542 in a #4 online... Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
CarlRak Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Black Magic KS in 01 or 02, good value in packs of 32, I seem to lose a few each session..... I like the heavy-ish gauge for little hooks, but still very sharp. Though once they've been in saltwater they rust quite quick, so basically a single use hook.
Twinfisher 4.9 Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 (edited) No 1 or 1/0, they may have small mouths relative to the head and bodies but a hook this size will still be swallowed. Agree Mustad 524 has always been my hook of choice. Edited May 2, 2014 by Twinfisher 4.9
rockfisherman Posted May 2, 2014 Author Posted May 2, 2014 Seeing as I couldn't find the mustad 542 in a #4, 1/0 being the smallest, I opted for the mustad 7766D in a #4, which is supposed to be a tough hook Harry If it's to good to be true, it usually is...
