Dave_
G'day Raiders, I just got back from a holiday at Port Douglas and I managed to sneak a bit of fishing in while I was there, I know this is far from a local fishing report but I thought a few might be interested. I was like a little kid at Christmas time at the thought of all the different fishing options at my disposal. The first on the list was a charter trip in the Dickson Inlet then another charter around the inshore reefs, followed by hiring a boat to explore the Dickson Inlet some more by myself and finally some land based stuff off the rocks and jetties. First of many perfect days. Silver Jew taken on a squidgy wriggler in gary glitter. Mangrove Jack taken on a squidgy wriggler in bloodworm. Small Trevally (Big eye?) taken on a squidgy wriggler in bloodworm. One of many Coral Trout taken on various plastics, this one on a 5" Z-Man scented shadz in pearl colour. There's a big croc there if you look close enough. Sorry but I wasn't getting any closer than this! Pikey Bream taken on a squidgy wriggler in bloodworm. Blue Salmon taken on fresh prawn. I lost one 3 or 4 times the size..... One of many Javelin fish (grunter) between 25 and 35cm taken on fresh peeled prawn. School Mackerel taken on a Z-Man 5" scented shad in pearl on 8lb line with my 2-5kg bream/bass stick, yeehaaa! Bloody Mrs showing me up again with another big Jack taken on a squidgy wriggler in drop bear. So many more fish I got smashed by including an 80-90cm Barra I dropped when it jumped and shook my 5" Berkley Powerbait jerk shad in the old pearl watermelon colour. Absolutely shattered me. Also a 25kg plus cod that ate a Moses Perch off my hook and headed back to the reef. All in all the fishing was great but according to the locals it was very slow going (what?) and as usual the Mrs out fished me. Absolute paradise and can't wait to go back. Cheers, Dave. Dave_
nice pikey bream!! Looks like Squidgies bloodworm + z-man are the most recommended SP.. Yeah mate, the white z-man jerk shads were dynamite on the reef fish, everything ate them, cod, small mouth nannygai, moses perch, coral trout, various emporers etc. Even small GT's and the Mackerel loved it. I was the only one fishing plastics and out fished 4 other bait fisho's probably 3 to 1. The wrigglers in all colours done well in the creeks especially on the jacks (what can't you catch on em?) and out of the 4 Barra I hooked, 3 took a z-man streakz curly tail in opening night colour however I didn't land one of them as they all shook the hooks in the air. Don't know what I was doing wrong.

Thanks Scratchie and yeah we did keep a few for the table but only the reefies, we couldn't bring ourselves to take the jacks even though she did end up with 5 of them.
