Tackle Box upgrade

The Incredible Hull

Recommended Posts

Hey Raiders,

As the topic suggests, I'm in the market for a new tackle box! Not really sure what I am exactly after, but from the top of my head here's what I'm thinking:

 • Something that's big but also portable (I generally fish from a boat, but sometimes land based)
 • Something that contains those plastic portable containers
 • Maybe a one that has a bag outside with pockets
 • Something with labels?

I don't have a spending limit so feel free to show and suggest!

Cheers.

Dave.

Not sure if its what your after, but I bout myself a Caribee Waterproof bag which will also shoulder sling or turn into a backpack.

I buy the plastic trays from Bunnings (Cheaper)

The bag will hold about 10 of them Plus all my wet weather gear, dry change of clothes, 2 spare reels, rod holders, torches and headlights, thermos and food for a nights fishing

 • A Car with a Boot, can be moved to and fro without much strain on you. If fishing from a boat park it close and remove needed plastic trays. If Land based, park it and remove needed plastic trays.
 • Holds more trays than you will ever really need.
 • Exterior bag comes in the form of a backpack which can be removed from the boot and has plenty of pockets on the bag and on your pants
 • Rego plate can be changed to TKLBOX

My Current Tackle Box is a RAV 4 and comes with rod holders and a bait esky :D

Edit : But in all seriousness, I use the Shimano Blackmoon and am thinking about upgrading to the Albackore which seems to be discountinued, bugger.

You said price wasnt an issue!

Check out the versus meiho range of tackle storage, im hanging to purchase some gear myself.

I especially like the VS-3078 with the strap attachment.

Good luck mate, hope this was helpful.

Very nice tackle box dude, but its a little small for what I'm looking for, but thanks for the suggestion =) . The Albackore is nice and big, pretty much what was I looking for =)

The Albackore 3 was the one i was hoping to get to, going to continue to search for it and hope to find some surplus stock somewhere in the vast world

The Albackore 5 was the latest addition to the family before they closed up shop, so i'll be searching for the 3 the 5 and the Altunative.

I'll keep you posted.

Had an idea pop into my head last night for a fishing tote. Something I am learning is as I get more kit, I get more disorganised and have more I tend to lug around when I go fishing - last few times I have been discouraged moving because of how much effort it is to pack up everything I am dragging around. I saw someone a while back had set themselves up with a hand trolley, strapped some rod holders, a tackle box and an esky to it. Seemed clumsy at the time but now that I think about it its not a bad idea.

My thought was something similar - about the size of a hand golf buggy with sand suitable wheels. A set of modular compartments that could be mixed to suit particular needs i.e Live well at the bottom that can slide in and out for access, set of tackle trays above that, larger compartments at the top for other gear, cutting board on top with holders for knives and pliers etc, bait bucket that clips on the side and can be attached to a belt. Rod holders on one side to hold 3-4 rods and a catch bag on the other. Fancy features could be LED lighting into the tackle trays when you pull them out, and maybe small LED floodlight that could pop up to help illuminate the cutting board. Power for the lights and aerator would come from a common rechargable battery. Using aluminium frame and solid plastics it could be designed to not fall apart from corrosion in salt environments.

The idea would be all your gear is sitting ready to be moved to the next location, and everything has a place to be put back so you don't have a mess of kit out. When you need to move its just a matter of wheeling on to the next spot. If sized right it could fit in the boot and used mostly for land based but probably just as useable with some adaptions to put into a tinnie and strap in as a all in one tackle station.

No idea of its commercially viable, or even something appealing to other anglers, but just something I had rattling around in my head last night.

Sounds like the Wild River Backpack :P It has built in LED's for the compartment and flap that opens up for rigging lures.

Those trollies you see, my old man made one using a collapsible trolley found during council cleanup day and an old suitcase. Ingenious ideas come from those old blokes who refuse to fork out cash for commercial products :) Worked a charm until it fell into the wash and floated to New Zealand :074:

When it comes to backpack setups I think it's better to steer clear of anything specifically designed for fishing and buy a quality backpack instead, something built out of 1000D Cordura.

I am currently using an old laptop backpack, however I think the soft padding makes it a magnet for absorbing all sorts of bait smells and since using some mullet it's been on the reek pretty bad. I think something made more waterproof materials might be better.

My dad picked up one recently which has dedicated tackle trays stacks in the bottom which seems pretty good.
