Definitely no E10 and I have heard no 98 in a 2stroke.

Apparently the higher octane can make the oil/fuel split.

Is this true?

Never hear about 98 being an issue in a 2 stroke, or fuel/oil splitting. I run 98 in my Etec and I ran it in my old Mariner because it's what I run in my car. Simpler all round.

I've been using 98 in my 2stroke outboard and 2stroke lawn mower for over 10 years. I couple it with iridium plugs. Yep I treat my engines like Kings and in return they give increased fuel economy from cleaner burns.

I've got a 2006 40hp Mariner, and it runs by far the best on 95 (have tried 98 too)idles a little smoother. Doesn't seem to run quite as well on the 98 at higher revs, don't ask me why I haven't a clue. I only buy from BP/Shell or Caltex, never independent especially if I buy regular unleaded.
