What Are Minnows

Minnow you would hear people talk about with trout fishing would be a minnow style lure. Eg Baltic Minnow as above or Rapala minnow lures. Its more a style of lure not one set brand. Hard bodied lure, Fish like shape and colours.

Rapala sinking or floating Trout pattern lures work great in brown or rainbow trout pattern. For lake Jindabyne rapala or minnow lures with a gold or orange belly work well at certain times of the year to resemble the resident goldfish that school up and get the trout feeding in a frenzy on them.

Hope this helps.

Tassie devils work well. Especially castin from the bank as you can get a good cast with them to cover ground and maximise the time your lure is in the water. For shallow running streams my favourite trout lure would have to be a very small and basic Celta. Natural coloured Vibes also work well for working fishy looking areas from the bank.

Minnow lures are designed to mimic native galaxia species that commonly live in streams etc. I find that spinners work very well, nothing fancy, where you place it and how you retrieve it are the important things. Very few trout can resist a spinner.

We used baltic minnows back in the 70's & 80's (still have a couple in the tackle box).

You thread your line through the centre of the minnow add a plastic ball to stop line abrasion and tie on your single or treble hook.

Good luck with your trout fishing.
