Rami
My dad is planning to go overseas with his pals, for his annual fishing trip. They normally go for wooden boats with no electrics. He is looking for a portable fish finder/ sounder/ gps for fresh water fishing. Any recommendations? Will update budget shortly.
muddie
For the GPS function, I just use my phone running the Navionics app. Works really well.
Rami
Even overseas?
muddie
Even overseas? They have maps for most of the world. See the chart at the bottom of http://www.navionics.com/en/mobile-pc-app. There are other apps as well, but I think Navionics is good. It's the one I chose. Rami
Thanks. Apparently he just wants the gps function. Any dedicated units?
Guest no one
Navionics is the way to go with a smart phone. Otherwise you're talking a lot of money! As for fish finders you can pick a cheap one up for $200 and sikaflex the transducer on and link it to a battery. But your set up is still $300 minimum really as you'll need the battery too. It get's cheaper every day. I bought a Lowrance Elite 3x for $129. Add $50 for a small SLA gel battery and charger and you're done. Not very portable though, but works great in my tinny.
