Tulz Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 I'm heading down to Durras this weekend and having never fished the area I'm after any advice. We're staying at the Lakesea caravan park and from what I can see I'll be able to fish the lake straight from the park itself? A bit of research has shown the prawning can be good as well? In addition how does the beach behind fish? Am I wasting my time trying for some Jew at night off the beach?
reese Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 havnt fished it personally but my mate has he said the beach is very good (havnt herd him catch a jewie tho) and the lake is very shallow if you have a boat -
Jack741 Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 I spend two weeks of January down at Lakesea every year. The lake itself is full of fish (flatties, bream, whiting.. etc). Fishing straight behind the caravan park can get you some large flatheads and bream. Further up towards the entrance there are some huge whiting, but be prepared for a strong current as the lake is currently open. I found the most productive bait to be live nippers which can also be pumped in the lake. I went prawning this year as well and got a big bowl full of large prawns... some people were getting a few kilos a night the week before i got there.Beach fishing is also good and there is some deep gutters right out the front of the caravan park (dangerous beach for swimming). At the south end of the beach the headland is often fished by rock fisherman but I've never done it myself so can't comment on how productive the spot is.
Tulz Posted February 10, 2015 Author Posted February 10, 2015 Thanks for the feedback. I'd be keen to get into some big Whiting so that might be my target. Cheers
