Suzuki DT30 (electric start) or Yamaha CV30 (manual start)

I'm deciding between the Suzuki DT30 electric start, or a Yamaha CV30 manual start for a 4.1m aluminium - both brand new 2014 models. Whats everyones opinion on which to go for?

I have the yamaha 30 cv in both electric and pull start on my 4.2 quinny going on 4 years now and it hasn't missed a beat.

They do run a lot rougher than the 3 cylinder models being 2 cyl carby engines but they cost considerably less.

Depending on the type of fishing you do they can foul plugs when slow trolling but if your just after an engine to get you around and fish at anchor or drift its ideal.

Maintenance is very cheap and easy to do yourself if your mechanically inclined.

Like I said I'm not familiar with the Suzuki engine but there's a lot of things you have to weigh up and only you can decide what suits your situation best.

Hope this helps a little.

Hi, they are both pretty much the same design, twin cylinder, single carby engine that has proven to last over many years with all brands. We still get E/J from the 70's in here that are this design still running fine. If someone said one is alot better than the other that is BS and if they were the same sort of dollars the Suzuki being electric start is what I would get. You should get price though and compare them to the bulk buy discount on clean tech 25HP/30HP Evinrude we have at the moment, that not only use ALOT less fuel, go better, have lower emissions, but also come with power trim/tilt as well as electric start. Normally these clean engines are twice the price of basic dirty carby engines, but you maybe surprised with what we are doing them for while we have stock.

Cheers,

Huey.

I have a 30hp Tohatsu 2006 which I have owned since new and it goes great, never missed a beat. The electric start is a HUGE benifit, espically in cold weather at altitude or when it hasnt been run for a while, so I would recomend the Suzuki. One thing though. I chatted to another fisho on the nepean up the gorge who had a 30 Suzuki and it was noisy as buggery, even compared to my tohatsu, which is noisy to begin with!

I would not say any of these twin cylinder carby engines are noiser then the next one and I have used them all-Merc / Tohatsu / Suzuki / Yamaha and the Chinese copies nowdays. Now if one particular engine has had water entry and the bearings are grumbly then that is a different story-seen that often too.
