antonywardle
My Tomtom is getting long in the tooth and Tomtom want $55 to update the maps, so i decided to look around and see what I could find. I ended up buying a Nokia Lumia 530 for $29 dollars. Its a windows phone locked to Optus, but comes with an app called Drive+. Anyway, I had a spare memory card lying around and I bought an in-car holder for $9 so for grand sum of $38 I have a car navigation system. I connect it to my wifi network to down load and update the maps. I don't need a sim in it, and you can of course still use it to call emergency services. (dial 112) If you want, you can activate the prepaid sim that comes with it, and I believe that you get Netflix free for a month. I was hoping to put this in my boat and use the Navionics app, but they no longer do a windows mobile version. Google maps is on there though. Anyway, it seems to work quite well, the only thing I'm missing is the speed camera alerts.

NaClH2OK9
Personaly I don't think it's a good idea watching Netflix whilst your driving. Just my opinion.
The Incredible Hull
Google Maps app, can't beat it!
antonywardle
good replies thanks So I don't have a sim in the phone so no worries about netflix while driving. Also, no google maps, unless you can have offline maps. You are correct, no speeding so no problems, but its nice be be aware that there are cameras around ;-) Windows mobile is a little bit of a learning curve. There is a chance that the phone can be hacked and Android installed in its place. I'll report back if im able to do this
