Hey raiders.

Today whilst on the water in a our yaks a mate and i were sussing down an inlight in chase of some flatties.

We came accross a alumium tinny up side down and half sunken. Starting to deteriorate slowly

My question is is there such thing as salvage rights in regards to reporting it then if not claimed after so long can you take it and restore it and legally re register it??

May sound silly but just food for thought. And worth a try. Haha.

Always if such rules does anybody know where to find in black and white set in stone?

Cheers

This happens quite a bit up here on the Tweed when we get floods.

We have had a couple of tinnies wash up in the yard.

From my experience, we report it to the police. If registered with stickers or boat coded

then the owner is easily found. If not then the original owner has 3 months to report,

identify, without looking at it, prove ownership & then claim the boat.

The ones washed up aren't usually worth keeping anyway, but my neighbours

kids did score a 1/2 decent one to run around in for a couple of years.

Sorry, I have nothing in black & white that can help.

Ok so if we report it to the police then not claimed in 3 months then we can take it yeah and so your meant to let it sit there and ruin the waterways with oil or fuel spills and stuff or can you take it to a yard and wait or somethitn?

If you want to claim it then take it off the water & report it.

If you want to save the waterways from petrol & oils then report it

to Waterways as a boating hazard & they will remove it the next day.

Camo,

As you may know when on the water a lot of law changes.

I DON'T know the answer but it resolves in a area of marine law-->

Floatsum Jetsum I think.

You can look it up

JD

And yes you do have salvage rights and expenses to a degree.
