stonedpirate
Hi all I bought a second wilson MT8144 rod but this time its the alvey version. The reel is loose when fully clamped inside the reel mount. I tried putting electircal tape around the reel "feet" but its still wobbles around. Anyone know a more permanent way to fix this? Crossfire63
Obviously the reel seat is two big for the reel. A couple of quick fixes. A couple of wire ties or large diameter hose clamps will hold the reel in place
Twinfisher 4.9
Can I ask what size Alvey you are using on the 8144? I think there are other options as to how to fix this Edited January 4, 2016 by Twinfisher 4.
stonedpirate
Thanks guys I will try the cable ties for now. Still looking for a permanent fix. The reel is a 651e5. Not sure why wilson would install this mount as it is designed for 650 alveys and they all have the same size feet.
Twinfisher 4.9
Ok, the cable ties will not be a great solution. You said you have tried electrical tape and understand why that didn't work. Could I suggest a visit to the local hardware store and buy a couple of plastic door wedges, Using a Stanley knife slice it into thin wedge slices, slide into the reel seat on the rod and see what makes it secure. Suggest it may be the top of the reel seat. Once you have established what holds the reel secure, use Araldite to glue the inserts in place. Have no idea why they would supply that size reel mount. Just asked about your size Alvey, as thought you may have been using a say a 500 model. Hope this helps. Steve.
