One of our long time members and sponsor Sean aka yarraone aka Shadows Welding and Trailer Repairs is holidaying in Fiji at the moment.

He has his wife and his young daughter and 2 young nieces with him. We last heard from them last night as the cyclone was about to hit Viti Levu. He is on the Coral Coast and luckily it did not hit there directly.

Outer islands and some of Viti Levu is affected. There is a lot of mess and power lines down. There is no internet or power.

The Fiji Electricity Authority wishes to inform its valued customers that the entire Viti Levu, Labasa, Savusavu and Levuka areas are without power supply from yesterday.

Our teams will be deployed to patrol and inspect our Power System and only commence to restore power supply after the repair works have been completed and FEA sees it safe to switch on the power supply.

Once a preliminary assessment of the extent of damage has been carried out subject to accessibility, then only a power restoration plan will be released advising customers of the restoration period and time when the supply is likely to be restored in the affected areas. The FEA will give priority to Hospitals, Water Pumping Stations and the Central Business District areas in all cities and towns.

Repair works to some areas will be delayed due to accessibility as some areas are still flooded.

Please treat all broken power lines as live and to exercise appropriate precaution by staying away and keeping others away from all broken power lines. Inform FEA immediately on 132333 or 913 for any lines that are on the ground.

UNICEF is on standby to assist the Government of Fiji if needed for an emergency response.Teams have prepositioned emergency supplies including health kits, tarpaulins, water containers and purification tablets in Suva and Nadi, ready for rapid response if required. UNICEF's first priority is the protection of children and pregnant women.

As always the Aussies jump in to help. I know Sean had been helping secure people's belongings and had a 4wd at the ready. I know Sean and his wife Lisa (a nurse) will be helping wherever possible. They are regular visitors to Fiji and have many friends.
