Rods on an Areoplane

Taking some rods on an Aeroplane. I'm making a rod holder out of some 90mm down pipe.

As far as I can tell, with Virgin Air, as long as I am at or below 2 metres and I have screw on

ends, then I will be fine.

I'm wondering can I duck tape two, together, so that I can separate the rods, and still

have that count as 1 piece of baggage?

Anyone else taken their rods on a plane?

I'm sure when I went to Vanuatu on Virgin 2 years ago (so international rules) 105cm was the limit for hand luggage and my rod tube was 120cm so therefore counted as one item of checked baggage. That's why I bought a couple of travel rods that fitted in the suitcases. If you're using 90mm pipe just put the rods in rod bags and put int the same tube and fill the gaps with cloth or rags.

You shouldn't have much trouble fitting 2 rods in one tube. Get some Velcro wraps so they don't move,

And like Boatart said pack some clothes around them so they don't rattle.

I took a Shimano Raider 6-10 ktravel rod as hand luggage last trip.

The good thing about travel rods is you know you have your gear. Some airlines are notorious baggage losers.

Not naming any names Solomon Airlines.
