It's not a conspiracy, I learnt about planned obsolescence at uni. You have to remember on of the biggest audiences are tackle shops, and they hate products that last forever. Next time you're at a tackle shop tell the guy you're thinking of buying an Alvey reel and watch how fast he steers you towards a spinning reel.

Thank you for adding another word to my marketing vocabulary

My observations - they hate more the products which you bring for warranty repairs - particularly the smaller businesses. If the salesman convince me to buy a e.g. 2000 size spin reel - I am potential buyer for braids, HB and SP lures, Egi lures, jigheads, slow/micro jigs, several rods for different purposes with the same reel etc...never ending shopping list, which I would unlikely consider by buying Alvey
