Cameron Posted October 17, 2005 Posted October 17, 2005 My little blue Shakespeare 2400 is not a well reel at the moment and needs to see a reel doctor. Hopefully spare parts will not be required, because I imagine that they will not be available, given the age of the reel. However as it is a wonderful bit of gear when working correctly, I would like to get it back to health again As I am in the Gladesville area, I thought that I might take it down to Otto's, after I have a bit of a fiddle with it myself. Any other suggestions for places to take it?
Guest Jocool Posted October 17, 2005 Posted October 17, 2005 Go straight to Shakespeare mate. I by-passed a less than helpful retailer a while ago to get some warranty work done to a reel, as did MarkD, and they were great.
Guest bluecod Posted October 17, 2005 Posted October 17, 2005 Cameron, as Joe said give Shakespeare a call but don't be too disappointed if they tell you that parts are no longer available - I managed to get my 2430 working again thanks to an assist from Cajun who supplied all the necessary spares from his 2430 - I also have a 2410 that has a broken bail arm spring and it looks like I will have to make the part myself. You're right though, they are a great reel - if you need bearings go and see a specialist bearing dealer - they can often get you out of trouble.

The blue Shakespeares were great reels in their day and many are still doing good service. Do you think Shakespeare would help me out with something that old?
Guest Jocool Posted October 17, 2005 Posted October 17, 2005 No promises Cam....BUT.... I was rummaging through my dad's garage yesterday and recall seeing my old Shakespeare reel there. I will have a look and see if any parts are salvageable and let you know! Do you think Shakespeare would help me out with something that old? I don't see why not! They may buy it back of you for a museum piece.
