Hi All,

Hope you have all enjoyed a Happy New Year and Christmas. With Boating Season well under way there are a few events coming up that may be of interest. Your cooperation in disseminating the information through to your clubs, associations, agencies, customers or staff is greatly appreciated.

Maritime Operation Boat Safe: ‘Lifejackets – Don’t Risk Your Life’ has had its education phase running for the past week and will have an enforcement phase this Saturday 14 – Sunday 15 January 2017. If you are out on the water this weekend then expect a high presence from Maritime and the Water Police as they focus on the campaign.

Muddy Creek Boating and Amateur Fisherman’s Association (MCBAFA) – Boat Safety Day This Saturday 14th January from 1pm MCBAFA will be hosting a Boat Safety Day. Myself and other Boating Education Officers will be on site as will Marine Rescue. We will be conducting Flare and Inflatable Life Jacket Servicing demonstrations as well as answering any questions that you may have. If you have never seen a Flare demonstration before then it is highly recommended to come along. Flares are incredibly dangerous if not handled the correct way. Also if you have inflatable life jackets and are unsure of how to service them then this is the perfect opportunity, bring them along and learn how to self-check them. MCBAFA is located at 100 Bestic St Kyeemagh.

Emergency Services Mega Bash – The 6th annual Emergency Services Mega Bash will be held on Saturday 21 January 2017 at Gannon’s Park, Isaak St, Peakhurst. The Emergency Services Mega Bash is a community engagement event for different agencies, including RMS Maritime, to visualise static displays and demonstrations using various equipment and vehicles, incorporating a festival style atmosphere for attending patrons, whilst building comradery between the personnel of the emergency services. All profits are being donated to Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation.

The event itself is a round robin cricket tournament played amongst teams made up from the NSW emergency services being Police, Ambulance, Fire & Rescue, State Emergency Service, Rural Fire Service and Health.

The day will include Skill clinic sessions for cricket (run by Cricket NSW) at 9.30am; rugby union (run by NSW Waratahs) at 10.45am; rugby league (run by NRL) at 12pm; and soccer (run by Sydney FC & St George Football Association) at 3.30pm.

A celebrity signing session will be held from approximately 1pm followed by a celebrity 10/10 cricket match. Celebrities will include Glenn McGrath (Cricket), Brett Lee (Cricket), Paul Wade (Soccer), Michael Bevan (Cricket), Ian Thorpe (Swimmer), Emma Tonegato (Rugby), Mark Coyne (NRL), Alanna Ferguson (NRL), Trent Waterhouse (NRL), Melissa Wu (Diving), Ben Ross (NRL), Anthony Maroon (Triple M), Troy Luff (AFL), and Scott Gourley (NRL) to name a few!!

Players from the NRL – Cronulla Sharks & St George Dragons will be attending to take part during the clinic skills and/or celebrity signing sessions.

Kids and parents will be entertained with amusement rides, mini carnivals, games and demonstrations, static displays of historic and current Police and Emergency Service vehicles, Australian Defence Force displays, general and food stalls.

The Old 4 New lifejacket program - is all about making more boaters aware of the range of modern lifejackets. Not only are they slim-fitting but there’s also a style to suit all different types of water activity.
