Narralakes Posted November 19, 2005 Share Posted November 19, 2005 G'day Raiders, after getting the leccy yesterday and mounting it in the arvo, I was keen to get out and test it. With only a couples of hours this morning before the daughter's party I snuck out at 4.30 to the lake. The motor worked perfectly, took a couple of minutes to get use to the footcontrol, but with more practice, it'll be fine and now the Edgetracker is complete, cant wait to get amongst the bass soon. Managed to get 8 mullet (to 30 cms), 9 choppers (littluns at 20 - 25 cms) and a lone bream on the 5 wt too, back home by 8.30 and post up this quick repor, I know that mullet arnt a glamour fish, but they are heaps of fun to catch. Plenty of choppers and mullet in the lake, some big ones jumping out of the water too. It was a snack to mount, I talked to the guys where I bought it and he gave me heaps of good advice, didnt have to block it or cut away any bow rail, just put down a 10 mm rubber mat below it to raise it above the bow lip. It goes a treat and I'm very satisfied. We'll organise a day soon either down the lake or bass, catch up with you soon. I would love a foot controled lekki but I just cannot justiify it ATM and I do ok with the tilller steer mounted on the bow... just a bugger in wind or current. The lake is full of choppers, mullet and bream at the moment, not huge choppers, but the mullet sure do get to decent pulling size. Lake is still not open so I imagine all the fish in there are desperately zipping around looking for a feed, when I threw out some burley (bread) I had instant fish, it was almost a fish or at least a hit each cast. The stripping tub, 50 litre laundry tub, is great and manages the line brilliantly, hardly any tangles and when moving around the boat, just pick up the tub and no worries about having to wind or pick up the line. I first used it a couple of months ago and when in the choppy waters outside fishing for salmon, it really proved its worth, mine is a home made job as well, pinched the idea off another site, couldnt imagine fly fishing without it. i heard there are some big kings in Botany Bay at the moment, perhaps thats what snaffled your clouser. Alex, the Motor Guide is an excellent price, PM me if you want the price. Its a freshwater model and I put an annode on it to stop the corrosion, Tyronne put me onto the leccy and annode idea. With good maintenance and washdown it should last ages. Now the boat has the leccy, I'm thinking it needs a new sounder on the front casting deck, wonder what the Mrs would think of that one? When I was a boy dad used to take us fishing sometimes to specifically target mullet. Not to eat but purely for the finesse of catching them on floats and then the fight on light gear. Phil, its pretty much set up now for what I want, I feel a bass session coming on. Shane, we can tee up a mullet afternoon down the lake one day if you like, might see if more of the Raiders want to get down there. There's mullet everywhere, just need some bread. A swing arm would be helpful, although the Matrix swivels, I still have to turn around myself to read it, anyhow its all good. Pogo, I'm very happy!
