  1. Hey Mate Good to see someone getting out and into them.... I have had too many social dos getting in the way of the fishing. I picked up a catalina jig stick a few weeks back. Looked at the spin saltiga 60 at the time ...... really nice but I just could not justify the coin. We are back down JB for the anzac weekend, so I hope the kings will still be on. alex
  2. top fish mate .... well done Sunday we were on the water a bit earlier and managed a good squid haul. Seemed pretty quiet everywhere but found some fish out round the heads. First smoked before I knew it. Then got a 84 and a very fat 88 .... happy chap. Jo then got dusted big time on heavy spin drag...pretty funny really, holding on for dear life! alex
  3. Nice work on the dollies mate tell me you didn't do that trip in your tinny Andrew? alex
  4. Well said Oz... I know of more than a few wrecks in MH but this one is news to me. I will suss that one out next time in MH ... as you say, its not that big. Taking the time sounding out the areas you fish pays off time and again. I try and make a habit of going back over areas of interest time and again often each time I am on the water and passing by... helps you get a mental pic of what is down there and how it looks with nothing around/heaps of bait/kings or whatever. I will not forget the first time I came up to a spot Xand called a hit....oh heaps of bait.... shit they have gotta be kings .....ping zzzzzzzzz and bingo It is all about knowing the area and taking the time to take it all in. In all truth I was more interested in where you got squid... been a bit thin for me of late. alex
  5. Just beent through this process myself..... and ordered one of each Willn...... I have been looking everywhere for a 3 piece advantage rod. When did you pick that up? alex

    A Bit Of Fun

time and tide wait for no fisherman.
  7. Thats interesting Allen, I would not have thought to take that approch. I will see what he has to say. I am having a bit of a hard time finding recipies for any blanks. Anyone has any info on where to start? alex
  8. Thanks mate, that is the kind of info I was after. I assume that you can get all that stuff in? If so, do you mind if I come say hello sometime soon, pick your brain bout the details and put in an order for all the bits? alex
  9. Anyone out there built up a fly rod? I want to put together a 10# to pull next seasons kings from the harbour structure. I have put together a few spin rods to date with great results and now want to go that next step... I have a 7# struddie 9" 3 piece that lives in a nice box I made so best of all worlds I would like the 10# to also be 9" and 3 piece so they can all bed down in the same box Any info on blanks would be most welcome...I don't want to spend a heap... alex
  10. Thanks Ken. I was hoping you would pop up I don't know the passage that well.... care to put me onto a few spots. I will be on the plastics and the 7# most the time though I may spin the rocks and throw a slab bait out from the beach if it seems ok. Do you know anything of moffat/dicky beach and how it goes of the sand? How bout the rocks round there? Sorry for the twenty questions but it is always good to go prepared. alex
  11. Hi all I will be heading up north to Caloundra for a week to have xmas with my gran. She has a place on Moffat beach and though I know the imediate area well from many trips there as a kid...this will be the first time I make the trip with fishing on the mind...all the time One place I want to have a close look at is the lagoon on Moffat? Does anyone know if it is holding any fish? alex
  12. Sounds like you had a good day Ken. I got my second fly salmon last week out near north head. A real workout on the 7#. The schools were picky also with lots of follows but no action on the plastic. I have a day off on Friday so I am out there to add to my total. alex
  13. Got the flies today and a big thanks to everyone. I will add a pic of all the flies in the swap... From top to bottom.... 1- my shaggie dog baitfish 2- weirys fuzzle fish 3- pogos squid 4- narras eye fly 5- bluecods salmon clouser 6- trevs polar fibre minnow 7- ?? I think another of tevs flies 8- yellow subs shrimp 9- ?? nicks fly? I hope I go that right as I am a bit unsure about a few. A special from me to both weiry and the yellow sub. Top flies guys and I would love to know how to go about both tying and fishing these beauties All up a great effort from all.... and a special thanks to Nick alex
  14. Tied all mine last night with just the need for a bit of a tweek and trim before they are certified A1 alex
  15. Well done Ken, sounds like a nice morning and a good way to break in a new toy. I would love a foot controled lekki but I just cannot justiify it ATM and I do ok with the tilller steer mounted on the bow... just a bugger in wind or current. Is that a freshwater model and if so, any worry about the salt? alex

    80cm King

I also talked to Joe as he came to saw ello and show me his king while I was at the spit. I had just droped 2 kings in quick time when he turned up...I tell him my sorry tale and he goes 'WellI just pulled this guy up....' Nice one mate! alex
  17. Onya pogo, I was wondering if you were going to poke your head in this alex
  18. Why have I been scratched???? Can I assume it is some strange error? And do I guess we are all go for 9 flies each? alex
  19. Sheeeet I am green with envy. I thought my day was good getting my first king.. 64cm.. of the season after a few near misses of late. I saw you head out late cap'n when I was on a bouy at the spit. alex
  20. Yep I will be up Was going to offer to manage it though I am very busy at the mo so did not want to commit. I would have said 'eyes' though Narra beat me to it so I will tie....what I think is called a shaggie dog...tied on size 1 black magic recurve hooks. Good for floating down a burly trail.... not that I have given them a swim yet. The swap should have a limit so we have an idea how many flies we will be up for. alex
  21. I too will add my thanks to George for putting the day together and ABA for there support. The weather did it's thing but I still had a good time seeing some familiar faces and meeting some new people. Also scored a first with a mullet on the bread fly...almost got his mate though I dropped him for an early release. Got a few good tips watching over big petes shoulder.. and a few ideas peering into agents fly box. Narra and pogo.....well done on the casting instruction Baitcasters and clogs???...well I have never been a purist so i won't be starting now alex
  22. Ken I could sort you out for a lot less than $200...I am a big fan of the beer economy or maybe even the 'take me out and show me a bass on fly economy' I work in ali all the time and have a TIG welder if needed. Personally I would be doing it right the fist time. I guess your not thinking of selling soon and with so many boat like yours sporting lekkies now I doubt that a properly prepped area to mount a lekki will harm resale. alex
  23. Yeah, I know what you mean. I have lost count of the times I have watched the line peel off as a stud breambo headed for cover while I thought.... maybe I should flip the bail??? ping! For that reason alone I have been playing out that upcoming big king 'fight' again and again in my head. I would like to think that after the first or second reefing i would be willing to try...... next take...set the hook and then just back right off and see what happens? I just hope I get the option to try this out! alex
  24. Congrats mate Good to hear when someone puts the yards in and it pays,,, alex
