Coffs Harbour Boat ramp

Hi guys,

Im planning a family holiday to Coffs Harbour in April and I plan on launching my 6m Sailfish Cat from Coffs Harbour. The majority of the time I launch from Botany boat ramp in Sydney but I have launched a smaller boat from arrawarra beach for many years on myself and my fathers annual trip up north. So Now with the bigger boat and the family the beach launch is not practical so my question is, how easy is Coffs boat ramp to launch and retrieve? I’ve done a bit of research and I know there use to be a problem with surge. Did the 2014 upgrade help with this? Also I know it gets very shallow especially at low tides. Is there a specific channel I should  take when launching and coming back and do I need to avoid low tides at all costs?

Any advice from locals or any of you that have used the ramp before would be extremely valuable to me.

Thanks Raiders

I have used the Coffs ramp a couple of times over the last year.  I went out when it was pretty much low and the prop just touched.  Boat is a 6m with 150hp so I image similar draft.

Last time I used it was in November 2020 and the main think to look out for was the longreach excavator that was there making the channel a bit bigger.

My view, if there is too much surge at the ramp, you probably don't want to be outside anyway.

Surge situation is far better than it used to be, the entrance can still silt up a bit but the key is when coming in swing west past the entrance and come back at it from there on the plane until you are in, ramp can be slimy, prepare to use 4wd when pulling out

Thank you for the advice guys. I will keep all your points in mind. The first couple of times I launch I might aim to head out around the middle of the tide and use my depth sounder to gauge how shallow it is. Is the longreach working every day there?
