wazatherfisherman
Budgewoi canal should have plenty of Bream this time of year. We fished it plenty of times and there are two rigs that worked well for us. First rig is simply a small ball sinker about 7-10gms above a swivel, followed by about 50cm of leader, then hook. Keep your leader under 4kg and a 1/0 Suicide/Octopus pattern for the hook. Note that fishing with lead on the hook type rigs snag up badly in this location. This was for night-time fishing The other rig that worked really well (and no snags!) for daytime was a fixed Luderick-style float set about 2.7-3 meters deep, with a couple of bits of sheet-lead squeezed on about 30cm apart above the hook. Bait of choice for this rig was the back 1/3rd of a Pilchard (tail) There are also Luderick, with Whiting and Flathead available down towards the footbridge adjacent the caravan park. The canal flows the one way, regardless of tide. Not sure if the tackle shop is still there, but there were always heaps of Bream along that (shop) side. 4
