Ryder
Hi Deckees I’m just wondering If anyone has heard of this builder. I picked up this rod a few weeks and it needs a little TLC and I’ve started stripping it for a rebuild. Labeled STARGAZER, it’s 9ft 3 in the old money. The guides are Fuji SHG probably 70s or 80s vintage. Once I took off the old varnish the blank is a nice honey/yellow, unsanded. I’m thinking it’s a Fenwick? wazatherfisherman
Hi Ryder from memory I think Noela Chambers was a Fishing News correspondent who reported on the fishing scene around Forster/Tuncurry back when Fishing News was a weekly publication coming in newspaper-like format. Maybe around the late 70's early 80's. Does look like a Fenwick and the only other glass blanks from that era in close colouration were Sportex that were slightly more 'orange', a few Conlon's, Butterworth's and Grizzly's- again, only from memory
XD351
Fishing news - now there was a paper with buying ! this is all google could find - not Noela but Noel chambers, it does mention fishing though so maybe the same person ? https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/162456659 Edited July 29 by XD351
Ryder
Thanks Wazza, It didn’t fit any specs for Butterworth or Sportex. XD 351 I reckon it could be the same person from one of the old boat sheds.
